It’s hard to believe we started the Glenmore Nutrient Bank three years ago this month! This section of Bren’s Run was impacted from decades of farming activities. As can be seen in the pre-restoration photo(s), this resulted in steep banks 3- to 5-feet incised, undercut, with loose, eroding soil, that caused channel abandonment and tortuous meanders in some locations. Working with Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), a Davey Tree Company and KBS Earthworks, natural channel design techniques were designed and implemented to include rock sills, in-stream habitat log sills, toe logs, and modified cross-vanes. Construction was completed in the fall of 2023 and planting was completed this past winter. The stream is half-way through its first growing season. Anyone in our business knows that the restoration process can be challenging and takes time. That time and effort is so satisfying when we see our efforts pay off with a stabilized stream that no longer is actively eroding and providing numerous ecological benefits for the environment and surrounding communities.
