Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary broadcaster Phil Donahue, who began his remarkable journey right here in Dayton in 1967. Below are articles and photos from just a few of the many shows that were broadcasted from right inside the DCC Theater. What an honor to be part of his legacy!

We’re serving up sustainability at the #daytonconventioncenter! 80% of our disposable service ware is compostable - Making every event a little greener. 🌱 ⭐️ Did you know? Compost bin locations, provided by Waste-Free Dayton in partnership with GoZERO Services, Food Waste Compost Courier, have been placed around Dayton for public use! You can find them at Pink Moon Goods and Five Rivers MetroParks 2nd Street Market. Individuals can pick up a FREE 3-gal bucket at Pink Moon Goods to collect compost, and contact Go Zero for more information on residential and commercial composting services. How’s that for #local resources? 👏 And shout out to World Centric for some of our products!

We L❤️VED writing love notes for The Foodbank, Inc.! Love Notes are encouraging, sweet messages created by volunteers to help brighten a child's day. These Love Notes are placed in the weekend meal kits and distributed to children (K-3rd Grade) enrolled in our Good-To-Go Backpack Program. Last school year, The Foodbank, Inc. distributed over 6,000 Love Notes a month! --- Interested in writing love notes to be included in local students' lunches? Last week, upon the conclusion of LCID/WDI, the Dayton Convention Center presented the first set of Partnership Patches to the Dayton Development Coalition.   Historically, patches have been used to signify brotherhood, honor, and accomplishments. Designed by local artists and inspired by WWII Air Force bomber patches, these patches signify camaraderie, tenacity, and our continued collaboration and shared commitment to promote a vibrant and thriving Dayton community!

Reflecting back on the last four days of LCID/WDI at the DCC: Honored, thankful, proud, excited. Just a few words to describe how we feel to be the host of such a prestigious event. Thank you to the Dayton Development Coalition for your continued trust and partnership year after year. DCC staff rolled up their sleeves and dove into the dirt at The Foodbank, Inc. Greenehouse last week! We learned more about their hydroponic system, urban garden, and composting programs while assisting with harvesting one of the 14 kinds of lettuce grown on-site. Nothing beats the office fluorescents more than spending a day in the sunshine, supporting a community resource that positively impacts so many lives. Thank you to The Foodbank, Inc. for all that you do. See you again soon! --- More about the Greenehouse: The Greenehouse is 6,000 square feet, featuring a hydroponic growing system by the Ohio-based company Cropking. It is used to grow 14 different kinds of fresh lettuce, which we distribute directly to our neighbors through our Drive Thru produce pantry. More than 100,000 heads of lettuce have been harvested so far, with a current average of 1,400 heads/month. https://lnkd.in/gJBUC4Qa

An exciting "first" for the Dayton Convention Center this afternoon! We had the pleasure of attending Dayton Regional Green's Sustainability Luncheon for the first time, and a wealth of knowledge was shared with us in just 90 short minutes. Key takeaways: 🔬 PFAS (Forever Chemicals): Gained a deeper understanding of these persistent chemicals and their lasting impact on both our bodies and the environment. (Pro Tip: Toss the Teflon!) 🏠 Passive House Concept: Learned about this revolutionary approach to building energy-efficient, net-positive or net-zero houses. 💪 Leaning into Our Strengths: Explored how recognizing and leveraging our strengths can benefit both ourselves and the community. 🗣️ Effective Listening and Communication: Insights on improving our communication skills to foster better understanding and collaboration. 🌍 Environmental & Social Justice: Discovered the strong parallels between these two and how they intersect to drive positive change.
