Congrats to Ayesha M. Hudson, owner of A-Peace, on cutting the green ribbon on 9 new sustainable, affordable homes in Ward 8! Yesterday, we celebrated Ayesha's hard work and this new addition to the community along with DC Department of Housing and Community Development, Amazon, Capital Impact Partners, DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU), community members, and Ayesha's family and friends, who all made this project possible. With a $3 million investment from DC Green Bank, Ayesha made her vision of green, resident-centered development for her community a reality. This all-electric building also features rooftop solar and energy-efficient appliances that will cut carbon emissions and utility costs. This project shows the potential of ambitious community leaders collaborating with DC Green Bank to bring their projects to life. We are proud to work with entrepreneurs like Ayesha who want to bring the benefits of the clean economy to their communities. Thanks to a loan from DC Green Bank, The Howard Theatre will soon feature solar power and an energy-efficient HVAC system. The historic theater will soon be a leader in sustainability and will benefit by: ❄️Reducing heating and cooling energy use 40%. 💲Saving $1.5 million over the life of the two systems. The upgrades will also be supported by a $675,000 African American Civil Rights Grant from the National Park Service, through the DC Preservation League. “We’re proud to support a historic DC institution by helping The Howard Theatre make critical upgrades that will allow it to continue to serve the community as a center of culture and entertainment,” said Trisha Miller, CEO of DC Green Bank. “The Howard Theatre has long been a cultural beacon and will now be a leader in clean energy and sustainability in DC.” “DC Green Bank has been a partner every step of the way in making sure we get the financing we need to make these important upgrades,” said Roy “Chip” Ellis, owner of The Howard Theatre. “We’re grateful for the support of DC Green Bank, the National Park Service, and the DC Preservation League in helping us invest in the future of the Howard Theatre so it continues to be an important part of the culture and nightlife of the District.” https://lnkd.in/e7Tr4Spb

The leaves are changing color, but we've been hard at work making DC greener! We've gathered everything that dropped this week at DC Green Bank into one pile for you: 🤝Trisha Miller and Greg Haygood were busy at #OFN40, talking with partners about how to build on the momentum created by the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund awards and how we can work collectively to put equity at the center of the clean economy. 🌞We announced a $2.6 million investment in our biggest solar project to date, alongside Aligned Climate Capital and Amalgamated Bank. Our loan will support the second-largest community solar project in DC and cut utility bills for more than 1000 households across the District. https://lnkd.in/gMYMRaE2 🏡A $1.59 million loan to Mi Casa Inc. will fully electrify more than 40 newly permanently affordable homes in Ward 4.
