"Intent data doesn't work!" I see it at least once a day on LinkedIn - "buying intent doesn't matter; it isn't real." What's missing from the conversation is that 3rd party intent data IN ISOLATION doesn't work. There is a fundamental flaw when it's used alone. 3rd-party bidstream intent is nothing more than a web scraper that will get a lot of volume ("trillions of signals") but simply pulls keyword hits off an ad network. Not only is it not GDPR compliant and won't work with upcoming 3rd party cookie restrictions, but it's also noisy and unhelpful data. Here's an example: For months the Department of Defense showed intent spikes for "ABM." The signal was strong, broad, and increasing. A number of high-level individuals were consuming content across the internet about ABM. Clearly, they were in the market for Account Based Marketing. Wrong! They weren't researching Account-Based Marketing - they were researching Anti-Ballistic Missiles! Bidstream lacks nuance. Few companies properly layer 3rd-party intent with 1st-party intent to truly understand if a prospect is in a buying cycle.
