About us

Dementia Alliance of North Carolina seeks to improve the lives of North Carolinians impacted by dementia as well as empower their caregivers through support, education and research. Each program is built on a foundation of CARE that provides Comfort, Assistance, Resources and Education for individuals and families living with dementia. As a result, we are able to provide a high degree of personal support throughout the entire journey with dementia. Dementia Alliance is a 501c3 nonprofit organization serving families in North Carolina. About Our Programs: Dementia Navigation: Our Dementia Navigator determines the individual needs of incoming families. As a result, we are able to provide personalized information, referrals, and other forms of caregiver assistance. Education: We provide in-person and online education for families and professional caregivers. By attending these workshops, conferences, and support groups, caregivers experience reduced stress and improved quality of life. Music & Memory at Home: An evidence-based program that helps people living with dementia find renewed joy and connection through music. Local Research: We fund local research of dementia science and care options. Lastly, we envision North Carolina as a “state of caring” for caregivers and individuals living with dementia.

  • A 2:30PM update on our WNC Older Adult Supply Drive: Our extended DANC family is THE BEST! We have been busy all day accepting packages and sorting supplies. Every time delivery comes in we cheer. We will be taking these to the DIAPER BANK OF NORTH CAROLINA and High Country Area Agency on Aging! We would also like to send a BIG thank you to Seni for donating 200 cases of adult incontinent supplies through the Diaper Bank of North Carolina! Four pallets of supplies are coming from their headquarters in Atlanta! This was directly because our community heard the call and shared with their networks! https://lnkd.in/ds2JvD25

  • Dear Friends, As we begin to comprehend the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, which so deeply affected our neighbors in Western North Carolina, my heart aches for the families, caregivers, and people living with dementia now facing overwhelming challenges. The storm may have passed, but the road to recovery is long—and for many, the needs are just beginning to surface. At Dementia Alliance of North Carolina, we know that caregivers, especially those caring for older adults with dementia, are often the ones left to shoulder the heaviest burdens. In the aftermath of this disaster, they are now struggling to secure even the most basic necessities while also trying to support and protect the ones they love. This is where we can come together. We’re launching a supply drive from now through October 11 to collect essential items for older adults, people living with dementia and their caregivers in the hardest-hit communities. Donations will go directly to the Diaper Bank of NC , Western NC Area Agencies on Aging and other local trusted partners who are working to get supplies into the hands of those who need them most. I’ll be sharing updates as we continue to learn more, but for now, I hope you’ll consider supporting this drive or contributing directly to one of these trusted organizations in the relief effort. Thank you for your compassion, your generosity, and your unwavering commitment to supporting our community in moments like this. Together, we can make sure no one feels alone in the aftermath of this storm. To support the supply drive you may order directly from this amazon list (https://lnkd.in/d6Bauuy5...) or drop items off at our office from now until October 11 ( Monday-Friday) from 9:30 – 4:30. We are located at 9131 Anson Way, Suite 206 Raleigh, NC 27615.

  • *THANK YOU* Wow! We are absolutely blown away by the incredible generosity and support at our *A Night to Remember Gala* presented by our friends at Constellation Quality Health. Thanks to YOU, we raised **$113,000** to help further our mission of improving the lives of North Carolinians impacted by dementia and empowering their caregivers through support, education, and research. From heartfelt stories to inspiring speeches, the night was filled with hope and love. A special thank you to Cris Charbonneau for sharing her personal caregiving story. Her words reminded us of the impact Dementia Alliance has on caregivers across the state. Together, we are creating a future where no caregiver feels isolated, and every person living with dementia receives the care and resources they deserve. Thank you for believing in our mission, for celebrating with us, and for standing with us to support families living with dementia. #DementiaAllianceNC #NightToRemember #TogetherForACause #HopeForDementia

    Social Impact at Fidelity Investments

I am a caregiver. In North Carolina, approximately 1.3 million family caregivers provided an estimated 1.11 billion hours of care in 2017 — worth a staggering $13.1 billion — according to AARP. Earlier this week, I attended an event facilitated by MSNBC / NBC News anchor, author and filmmaker, Richard Lui and hosted by AARP North Carolina and Duke Health, with leaders, advocates and researchers engaged in meaningful, inspiring dialogue about caregiving moonshots and the future of caregiving. I felt hopeful and energized by the ideas in the room and as I reflect on the conversations, I continue to feel excited. 🙇🏻♀️When I began my journey as a caregiver in the midst of crisis, whether it was for my daughter needing a kidney transplant, helping to navigate long-term care for my brother, who is a disabled veteran, or moving and supporting my parents with advancing dementia, I felt unprepared, overwhelmed and alone. Now, I work for Fidelity Investments, a company that sees me at this stage of life. I have benefits that provide me access to a care coordinator, a wealth of educational and mental health resources, including 12 counseling sessions, legal services and financial advisors to help me navigate estate planning, and back-up dependent care (for both children and my aging loved ones). Fidelity also invests in and provides space for 10 employee resource groups, including caregiver group RAISE, to help find solace and share resources and experiences with a community who are in the same season of life. But that’s access that not everyone has, either because of their socio-economic background, culture or geographic location. ✨I want to see that change. We need to provide greater access to intergenerational, culturally competent community-driven caregiving education and financial and emotional support.✨ A moonshot, as it’s coined, is possible. We need bold solutions in caregiving—solutions that transcend barriers of geography, culture, and access so no one feels unprepared or alone on their caregiving journey. 🚀 What’s your moonshot for caregiving? #fidelityassociate #caregiving #alzheimers Dementia Alliance of North Carolina, CareYaya, Patti Williams, Heather Burkhardt, Heather Hooper, Heather Altman, Neal K.
