#TruthTuesday Through the combined efforts of our incredible support network, DepaulUSA Los Angeles raised $30,000 through ticket sales, raffle prizes, and food and beverage sales! Words cannot comprehend how grateful and blessed we are to have such a continuous support system. On August 9th at Casa Milagrosa, Depaul USA – Los Angeles hosted the Taste of Depaul Open House Event. This vibrant gathering brought together the community to learn about or get a "taste" of Depaul's mission, enjoy delicious food, and celebrate the organization's impact on individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty. On September 20th, at the California Country Club Golf Course, Depaul USA – Los Angeles hosted the Depaul Charity Golf Tournament & Luncheon. This inaugural event brought together golfers and community supporters for a morning of friendly competition on the green, followed by a delicious luncheon and a program highlighting Depaul's impact on the lives of Angelenos. On the third Wednesday of every month, we are lucky enough to meet our community with fresh produce to help them get through the final stretch of each month. Food Distributions also open our doors to more of our community where we often advise them of the services and service providers we offer and are connected with. It is a chance to continue to help those we serve by reminding them of the programs available to them and our role as we walk with them and try to help them overcome their struggles. Our Fresh Grocery Food Distribution takes place this month in two weeks on Wednesday, October 16th. "I will always welcome joyfully any opportunity that comes my way to be of service to you.” As we take today to remember, commemorate, and celebrate the life and mission of St. Vincent de Paul, we invited our guests today not only to learn more about Vincent but to take the time and show how they see Vincent in their eyes. Guests were invited this morning to color pictures of St. Vincent to decorate our center and to be voted by their peers on which was the best design. When asked what Vincent looked like, and what he wore, they were encouraged to decorate their pages as they felt a man of his virtues would look like. Each version of Vincent shows the care, compassion, and respect he still holds for him and his work. "Love is inventive to infinity." St. Vincent de Paul's words today call for the care we hold in our hearts to manifest itself into the work we come up with to help our neighbors in need. We put this wording into practice today with our Ice Cream Social. Special treats like these help remind our guests that sometimes, even a sweet treat can go a long way for those we serve. As we continue celebrating the life and mission of St. Vincent de Paul, we look to the many ways he served those in need by using his and the creativity of others. "Noise makes no good, good makes no noise." St. Vincent de Paul's words stand as a reminder that good work needs no pomp and circumstance, the celebration of good work, is the good that it produces. Casa Milagrosa has seen an increase in new guests this past summer. When asked what brought them to Casa, most new guests responded that their friends invited them to a place where they found comfort and solace. Today, guests enjoyed a game of Bingo while we were also joined by our amazing helping hands from USC’s Catholic Caruso Center. As we celebrate St. Vincent de Paul this week, we look to his words as reminders of the work and care we exhibit here at Depaul USA LA. Casa Milagrosa and LA DAX House take these words of St. Vincent de Paul and put them into action every day. As we welcome those we serve daily, we work to offer a caring hand in their time of struggle. As we kicked off this week of celebration, we began by celebrating the birthdays of any guests who celebrate in September.
