About us
Disability Network of Mid-Michigan (DNMM) The Disability Experts in Your Community Our mission is to promote and encourage independence for all people with disabilities. We provide an array of services to people of all ages and with many types of disabilities. Our services include: Independent Living Skills Building Information & Referral Community Transitions Peer Support & Mentoring Skill Development Systems and Individual Advocacy We provide these services to people in Alcona, Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Roscommon, and Saginaw counties. Through our mission-driven work, we touch more than 10,000 people each year either through direct services or community education. DNMM is a consumer-run grassroots disability organization. We are a federally-funded Center for Independent Living. We believe in the Independent Living Philosophy: people with disabilities are the best experts on their needs and therefore they must take the initiative - individually and collectively - in designing and promoting better solutions and must organize themselves for political power. We believe that people with disabilities have the same right to participation, to the same range of options, degree of freedom, control and self-determination in every day life and life projects, that other citizens take for granted. Thus, we - as IL activists - seek the removal of infrastructure and institutional/attitudinal barriers in our communities. DNMM is a CARF-accredited, United Way, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

October is Global Diversity Awareness Month – a time to celebrate the positive impact of diverse cultures and heritages on our community. We live in a multicultural society and embracing the values of various cultures only strengthens our understanding and appreciation of the world. Open your mind to new views and ideas, appreciate cultural differences, and enjoy a fresh perspective. It helps you become a true citizen of the world. Share something from your culture that we might enjoy, like a recipe, a game, or a tradition! We’d love to hear from you. #GlobalDiversityMonth #Inclusion #DNMM

Today is World Mental Health Day, with a theme of Mental Health at Work. A supportive work environment provides purpose and stability, but unhealthy conditions like stigma, discrimination, and harassment can affect mental health and productivity at work. Reducing workplace discrimination through awareness, training, and engagement with people living with mental health conditions creates healthier, more inclusive work environments. We are here to help! Contact us for workplace training on various disability topics or for help creating a DEI plan at (989) 835-4041 or info@dnmm.org. #WMHD #DNMM

September 26th marks the 51st anniversary of the passage of the Rehabilitation Act, a landmark civil rights law prohibiting disability discrimination in the federal government's activities. This act laid the groundwork for advancing equity, access, and inclusion for people with disabilities in programs conducted by or receiving funds from the federal government, in federal employment, and in the employment practices of federal contractors. It laid the foundation for the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments of 2008. Disability Network Mid-Michigan is committed to combating discrimination and fighting for equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities. To learn more about how we do this or our services, contact us at 989-835-4041 or info@dnmm.org. #RehabAct #accessibility
