On 26 October, Georgian voters will choose their new parliament. This election will be decisive for the future of Georgia and perhaps of Europe. The polls show the pro-European opposition parties in the lead. But Georgia’s pro-Russian government, in power since 2012 and led by the oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, does not seem ready to relinquish power. A few days ahead of the elections, we discussed the situation and what is at stake with Anna Gvarishvili, a political journalist and the director of Investigative Media Lab • IML, and Shota Kincha, a journalist specialising in gender issues and the far right at OC Media, both based in Tbilisi. The event took place on Friday 18 October. Check the full conversation in collaboration with our partners at Voxeurop https://lnkd.in/ek4_MrNq

"Is Airbnb harming the housing market in Poland? 🏡 In his latest analysis for Krytyka Polityczna, Piotr Wojcik dives into a heated debate: Should housing be treated as a service instead of a product? Poland 2050’s new Minister of Funds and Regional Policy believes it’s time to limit short-term rentals like Airbnb, which have contributed to skyrocketing rents and the erosion of local communities. 🏙️ Residents are tired of their neighborhoods turning into revolving doors for tourists, and the data backs them up. 📊 In fact, Poland’s short-term rental market has grown by 25% year-on-year, making it one of Europe’s fastest-growing Airbnb hotspots. Yet, as cities like Berlin have shown, regulatory reform can reverse this trend. Wojcik’s article looks at how Poland might follow suit, ensuring housing serves people’s needs—not investor profits. Curious to learn more about how this could reshape Poland's housing landscape? 🧐 Read the full article, part of the Display Europe project, to discover what’s at stake for residents and policymakers. 🔥 Kebab: The Dish That’s Dividing Europe 🍢 Love it or hate it, the kebab is at the heart of a culinary culture clash across Europe. 🇩🇪🇹🇷 Is it a Turkish treasure or a German staple? With 1.3 billion kebabs consumed in Germany alone, some say it’s their national dish. Meanwhile, Turkey’s fighting to get it officially recognized like Italy’s pizza or Spain’s jamón. But there’s more than just taste on the line. Rising prices, gentrification, and even far-right politics have turned this late-night snack into a symbol of cultural identity and resistance. From the streets to gourmet menus, the kebab is sparking debates about tradition, immigration, and the future of food. 🍽️ Hungry for more?
