Updates

  • Palatine High School today unveiled a new donor-funded board highlighting the achievements of students in its acclaimed Project Excel program. The program, which further empowers first-generation college students, has seen several original scholars return as educators themselves. The Board specifically is named for Sue Quinlan, who is a retired school counselor from Palatine High School. So grateful to the District 211 Foundation donors who help students reach their goals and the individuals who make it all come together!

  • Inspired by Palatine High School alumnus Jesus Ortega, his employer Ally Financial helped put together an outstanding and motivational program for more than 250 students from several D211 schools. The program included a panel discussion featuring Ally employees from across the nation, who afterward gathered to celebrate students and PHS in the school's Project Excel room. Project Excel helps prepare and inspire first-generation college students. Through recent and significant donor contributions and partnerships like this one, the program is excelling — and so are its alumni.

  • Recent Hoffman Estates High School graduate Gabija Federavivius was a winner of the prestigious McCormick Award for Excellence from the Alliance Française of Chicago. The experience included studying in France this summer ... and viewing in person the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris. Gabija discussed her experience with students in Madame Carey’s fourth block French class at Hoffman Estates this week. “I was able to use methods that Madame Carey taught in class for studying and real-life application of vocabulary while I was in France,” she told them. This is the first time a Hoffman Estates High School student has ever earned the scholarship; another of Madame Carey's students was a finalist. The scholarship included full travel to/from Paris, a class at the Sorbonne, and campus housing. The scholarship is given to two Chicago-area high school graduates and French scholars each year Gabija will be attending the University of Wisconsin this fall, studying Biochemistry and possible minoring in French.
