Documented is excited to share our Strategic Plan – and the key objectives that will lead us forward in the coming years. ✅ Reach more immigrants in New York, linking them to critical services and resources, with a focus on Spanish- and Chinese-speaking immigrants and non-Spanish Caribbean communities ✅ Build out investigative work that lifts up immigrant priorities and inspires policy and systemic change, such as our wage theft work, climate reporting and uncovering key sources of mis- and disinformation ✅ Support newsrooms across the country eager to better reach immigrant communities in their region and reimagine multilingual news in a digital age ✅ Lean into our culture of learning, risk-taking and human-centered work ✅ Grow and build sustainability for the future Thank you to our board, advisory committee, team, friends, and supporters who guided the creation of this plan: Erin Mazursky, Marie-Marguerite Sabongui, Ryan Sparrow, Michael Haynes, Jason Alcorn, Courtney Eshleman, CFRE, Jesse Hardman, Damon Kiesow, Andrew Losowsky, Carolyn Powers, Kathryn Schotthoefer Dreyer, and Marcy Stech. On Saturday, Documented’s Chinese Community Correspondent Ke "April" Xu hosted a workshop dispelling misinformation and common misconceptions about the “public charge” policy at our Immigrant Rights Fair co-hosted with Committee of 100 and Glow Cultural Center. More than 100 Chinese immigrants attended, seeking vital in-language resources and information. We share our special thanks to our co-hosts as well as other community organizations that participated: NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, New York City Commission on Human Rights, Asian American Bar Association of New York, Community Legal Aid Center, the Asian American Attorneys Association, and Chinese-American Planning Council. With election season in full swing, Documented is looking at how immigrant New Yorkers are responding to the months ahead. Immigrant voters make up a large bloc, with about 24.5 million naturalized citizens eligible to vote this year, including 3.5 million newly naturalized Americans. Here’s a look at some of our coverage so far: 🔴 Local Asian community organizations – such as APA Voice and MinKwon Center for Community Action – are working to boost voter turnout, especially among Asian youth who continue to be the least likely to vote across all age groups within the community. Just 55% of Asian voters aged 18 to 24 participated in the 2020 general election in New York state. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/en9XWz9k ⚪ Caribbean women are excited about Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, particularly on issues like immigration and abortion rights. Hear more from Rosemonde Pierre-Louis and Shivana Jorawar, Esq., among others, here: https://lnkd.in/e8EH5fe5 🔵 Caribbean organizations in New York City like Caribbean Equality Project and South Queens Women's March coalition are ramping up efforts to turnout Caribbean voters, an often overlooked voting bloc that constitutes 20% of the city’s population.
