  • Having recently finalized the 2024 Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Service Academy (CSA) scholarship selections, the DoD CSA is excited to announce that its upcoming DoD CSA Scholar Bootcamp is set to take place on Sunday, 21 July, through Tuesday, 23 July 2024, in Washington, D.C. This exciting event, hosted by George Washington University (a designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Security [NCAE-C]) is intended to offer DoD CSA scholarship awardees an in depth understanding of the DoD CSA roles, responsibilities, expectations, and standards as they embark on their cyber academic path. This event was first launched in 2022 under the DoD Cyber Scholarship Program. Having recently changed names, the DoD CSA Scholar Bootcamp will afford scholars the opportunity to interact with DoD cyber leadership, meet agency representatives, network with fellow scholars, and participate in a hands-on cyber activity called Experience Cyber (formerly the NICE Challenge https://lnkd.in/e5kMhPkY). This exciting event will set DoD CSA Scholars up for future success and, in doing so, reinforce DoD's and OCIO's commitment to strengthening the nation's cyber posture.

  • From Sunday, 21 July through Tuesday, 23 July 2024, the DoD Cyber Service Academy (CSA), alongside the George Washington University (GWU) National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C), held a Scholar Bootcamp that allowed 2024 DoD CSA scholarship recipients to ask questions, meet their cohort, and familiarize themselves with the scholarship specifics that define the DoD CSA. Scholars participated in an exciting agenda led by the GWU team, and Ms. Alice Smitley (DoD CSA Program Manager) filled with special guest speakers, networking opportunities, and informative sessions that offered scholars valuable DoD CSA insights and set the stage for successful program participation.

  • On Friday, DoD CIO released a memo entitled "Unauthorized Disclosure Due to Typographical Errors." This memo highlights the risk of unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information, including Controlled Unclassified Information, that occurs when users mistake the .ml domain for the .mil domain. While this type of unauthorized disclosure is different from intentional and illegal disclosure of classified materials, the Department still takes it very seriously. DoD requests that all U.S. departments and agencies, international allies and partners, and members of the defense industrial base exercise vigilance and take policy and technical measures to prevent typographical errors that could result in unauthorized disclosures. This memo is part of DoD's ongoing effort to reduce the risk of unauthorized disclosure by users. We appreciate the support of interagency, industrial base, and partners in this effort. • The DoD CIO releases Fulcrum: The DoD IT Advancement Strategy today. Fulcrum supersedes the 2019 Digital Modernization Strategy and will ensure DoD continues to leverage the power of transformative change to deliver functional, scalable, sustainable, and secure 21st century solutions to the nation’s Warfighters.
