  • Energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs) are a critical funding mechanism allowing federal agencies to partner with energy service companies to procure #energy savings and facility improvements with no up-front capital costs. 💸 Agencies have been using ESPCs since 1998 to significantly reduce #energy and operating costs and make progress toward meeting #federal #sustainability goals. 🙌 FEMP co-chairs the Federal Energy Savings Performance Contracting Steering Committee with the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) where agencies come together to share their lessons learned while implementing ESPCs and to further promote the use of ESPCs throughout the federal government. This committee meets bi-annually and recently gathered at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory campus in Colorado. FEMP Deputy Director Anna J Siefken spoke alongside OSD Director for Installation Clean Energy & Energy Efficiency Susan Call about the importance of performance contracting and how it's a critical tool to achieve federal goals. • We had a fantastic time participating in the first Greenovation Summit with GSA on the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) campus last week! This event brought together #federal agencies, national labs, energy service companies (ESCOs), technology vendors, and more to discuss how to leverage underutilized technologies when striving to meet #federal #sustainability goals. 💡 Alongside GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan and NREL Director of the Strategic Partnerships Office Andrea Watson, FEMP Director Mary Sotos gave opening remarks emphasizing how important partnerships are for advancing agency #cleanenergy milestones. 🤝 💬 "Federal facilities are critical infrastructure. Using innovative and underutilized technologies to improve our federal energy footprint isn't only a nice to have, they're important tools as we work to enhance our nation's energy security, efficiency, and resilience. Public/private partnerships like GSA's Green Proving Ground are essential as agencies determine which technologies the government should leverage, " said Mary Sotos. 💬 "We’re committed to making smart investments like these [at GSA] – ones that accelerate our transition to net-zero, create jobs, bolster the economy, build healthier communities, deliver effective government, and save money doing it," said Administrator Carnahan. Together, we're focused on helping agencies take advantage of the momentum and opportunity we're seeing with performance contracts and reminding them to consider all available technologies - especially underutilized options like microgrids, high performance chillers, geothermal heat pumps, and battery energy storage - to meet goals and advance the federal #cleanenergy transition. Thank you to all who attended. Let's get to work! GSA Office of the Administrator U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)

  • Say "Hi" to FEMP's newest team member! 👋 Tyler Harris recently joined FEMP as the new #AFFECTfunding Program Supervisor. Tyler was previously the Energy Management Officer and Director of Energy for GSA Public Buildings Service. Throughout his career, Tyler has led GSA in some of its most innovative programs and projects including helping to organize GSA's Inflation Reduction Act approach to #electrify more than 80 facilities, the installation of #microgrid and grid-interactive efficient building technologies, and leading a push to purchase 100% #renewable electricity in more than 100 #federal buildings in Texas. Just last week Tyler traveled to the White House to receive the Presidential Sustainability Award for his work on transformational electrification of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Tyler’s exceptional experience in emerging technologies, leveraging funds, and driving a net zero emissions visions will be a major asset to FEMP and the AFFECT program. “I have been an active participant and recipient of AFFECT funding for many years and I know how this program can impact projects and really move the needle towards net zero emissions buildings. I am so excited to now be a part of DOE FEMP in helping agencies to target transformational change across the federal portfolio of buildings.” Welcome to the team, Tyler! 🎉 We're excited to have you.

  • FEMP Director Mary Sotos and FEMP Deputy Director Anna J Siefken gave opening remarks today to a group of energy service companies (ESCOs) holding a 2023 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC), Generation 4 (Gen4) indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract. ESCOs develop, design, build, and arrange financing for projects that save energy, reduce energy costs, and decrease operations and maintenance costs at their customers' facilities. ESCOs are crucial partners for federal agencies as they work to meet sustainability goals. Learn more about ESPCs and how to become a DOE Qualified ESCO: https://lnkd.in/gT-4YB-T
