Many Federal agencies are considering grid-interactive efficient building (GEB) technologies at their sites. 🏢 📊 One of these agencies, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), participated in our Federal Smart Buildings Accelerator program, which focused on helping agencies adopt GEB strategies. Learn how NIST created a roadmap to become a smart campus by incorporating new technologies, such as energy management information systems, and other GEB capabilities. https://lnkd.in/gw3xAFiz

Today, we remember and honor the legacy of President Jimmy Carter, whose leadership laid the cornerstone for America's energy future. President Carter’s foresight led to the creation of the U.S. Department of Energy in 1977—a pivotal step in rallying American minds and resources around the goal of better addressing the country’s energy challenges. He was a pioneer in more ways than one. He led landmark policies, such as the National Energy Act of 1978 and Energy Security Act of 1980, which reduced America’s dependence on foreign oil and accelerated the development of renewable energy technologies. He established the Solar Energy Research Institute in Colorado, known today as our National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and was the first to install solar panels at the White House. “I hope that, perhaps a 100 years from now, the change to inexhaustible energy sources will have been made, and our Nation's concern about energy will be over. But we can make that transition smoothly—for our country and for our children and for our grandchildren—only if we take careful steps now to prepare ourselves for the future.” - President Jimmy Carter, Address to the Nation on Energy (November, 1977). In 2025, President Carter's mission remains with us. The U.S. Department of Energy will continue to secure the country’s energy independence and push the boundaries of science & technology to deliver energy solutions to the American people. Thank you, Mr. President, for your service to our country. We are proud to honor you.

Data centers are the heartbeat keeping the flow of information pumping through our public and private sectors. 📊 However, to process mountains of #data in mere seconds, data centers consume massive amounts of #energy and emit a lot of heat in the process. And as our demand for #artificialintelligence (AI) and #machinelearning grows, so too will the energy demands placed on #datacenters. FEMP and experts from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory created the Best Practices Guide for Energy-Efficient Data Center Design to address concerns about #datacenter efficiency and how to keep them 🆒 while running. Read key takeaways from the guide. https://lnkd.in/gwpDJizU

In 2024, FEMP strengthened its efforts to equip the Federal workforce with the tools and expertise needed to ensure efficient, clean, secure, and resilient #energy use across our nation's critical infrastructure. These efforts enable the Federal government to lead by example while reducing energy use and saving taxpayer dollars. It was a year of historic milestones. To name a few: 💰 98 Federal projects were selected to receive a record amount of funding to help agencies implement energy- and cost-efficient measures and make progress toward meeting Federal goals. 🏅 70 individuals, programs, and projects were honored through our recognition programs. 💡 More than 2,700 professionals from the Federal energy management community joined FEMP in Pittsburgh, PA for Energy Exchange where more than 80 trainings were offered that covered topics spanning all phases of energy management. 📢 Big news from GSA! This historic energy procurement is the largest in GSA history, and locks in an affordable, reliable, carbon pollution-free electricity supply to 80 Federal facilities. It's estimated that this contract will provide electricity equivalent to powering over one million homes annually over the ten-year term. This is a win for the climate, the economy, and taxpayers. ✅✅✅ For more on how your agency can also leverage energy procurement, visit our website. https://lnkd.in/gRaCH2_Y
