Longer, healthier lives. Together.
About us
The Dog Aging Project is an innovative initiative that brings together a community of dogs, owners, veterinarians, researchers, and volunteers to carry out the most ambitious canine science project in the world. Our work is centered on two fundamental goals: understanding how genes, lifestyle, and environment influence aging and intervening to increase healthspan, the period of life spent free from disease. Dogs truly are science’s best friends. Though they age more rapidly than humans, they get the same diseases of aging, have a rich genetic make-up, and share our environment. By studying aging in dogs, we can more quickly expand our knowledge of the aging process not just in dogs but also in humans. The Dog Aging Project will follow tens of thousands of companion dogs for ten years in order to identify the biological and environmental factors that maximize health and longevity.

The Dog Aging Project reposted this
Grateful for Morris Animal Foundation's support of research that improves the lives of animals. Thanks to funding from the foundation and collaboration with The Dog Aging Project, Dr. Audrey Ruple and I (along with an awesome support team at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine) will be investigating how changes in companionship impact our dogs' health as they age. 🐶 💜
As dogs live longer, they encounter unique health challenges that can affect their quality of life and their families. To address these issues, Morris Animal Foundation is funding eight innovative studies focused on senior dog health, including research on osteoarthritis, cognitive decline, obesity, and more. These studies, slated to begin this year, will provide valuable insights and tools for veterinarians, researchers and pet owners, paving the way for healthier, happier lives for our aging canine companions. This work is made possible by the generous support of our donors. Learn more about these groundbreaking projects and how you can help advance science to save animals: https://lnkd.in/gvG3bbTS
