  • Have you entered the Mining Innovation and Research Battlefield? There are a handful of entries sitting in draft (we see you 👀) and we don’t want you to miss out. If you are considering throwing your hat in the ring, here are 3 quick tips for your entry: 1. Articulate your idea  The finalist shortlist is chosen based on entries so we need to clearly understand your idea from your submission. Tell us: ✅ The problem you are addressing ✅ The details of your innovation or research idea ✅ The predicted benefits of implementing your idea 2. Make it relevant There are many challenges we could address, but this year we have set a specific focus around tailings management. Address any aspect, suggest any improvement in current practice that will contribute to zero harm. 3. Don’t miss the deadline!  Entries are open until 7 November.   • Great to see DPI non-executive Director Mark Podlasly ICD.D and Board Chair Peter Bryant speaking about important issues at International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) from the Newmont Australia Plenary stage this week. 🎙️ Mark spoke on the importance of First Nations inclusion and co-ownership in mining projects for shared prosperity and purpose, and Peter moderated a panel focusing on circularity and its increasing importance in future strategy for mining and metals, important for competitive communities, companies and countries.   • The rewards are enormous for those history-makers who are working on revolutionizing tailings management. Here’s what Mining Innovation and Research Battlefield winners and finalists will enjoy: ⭐ The top prize is the US$25,000 research grant, thanks to Anglo American. This grant gives winners the flexibility to spearhead their research or innovation in the way they see fit, plus the opportunity to present their progress at the following Mining Indaba conference in 2026. ⭐ Up to four finalists after Round 1 (online pitch) will receive a delegate pass to Investing in African Mining Indaba, in Cape Town, South Africa, valued at £2,215 each. Finalists will not only attend this high-profile event for free, but will have the chance to pitch their ideas to international leaders in mining and receive peer recognition for their work.  ⭐ All shortlisted finalists involved in Round 1 of the Battlefield will have an exclusive opportunity to pitch in front of our judges and receive instant feedback and recognition for their work.
