More than 80 of the country’s brightest young minds descended on Perth this week for Newmont Australia’s Graduate Conference (GradCon) to network and learn about opportunities for career growth at the world’s top gold producer. Newmont Australia’s leadership and talent teams and site general managers shared their inspiring personal career journeys and offered advice about a range of topics including the importance of building effective relationships, collaboration and teamwork and how the company offers exciting roles across the world at its global operations. There were also informative sessions of Newmont’s Australian exploration activities, bringing technology to underground mining, innovation and organisational change. We loved seeing the energy and enthusiasm of our graduates at the event and can’t wait to see their careers flourish at Newmont!

Congratulations to Warlpiri Education and Training Trust (WETT) for winning the Education category at this week’s 2024 National NAIDOC Awards. Warlpiri teachers and traditional owners of Newmont’s Tanami gold mine site set up WETT in 2005 to use royalties from the mine to improve education and training outcomes for Warlpiri people in the Tanami Desert. For almost 20 years, WETT has invested more than $57 million to support Warlpiri people across its five education program areas - children and families; language and culture in schools; youth development; secondary school support; and learning community centres. Newmont has forged a close partnership with the Warlpiri people to operate at Tanami and is committed to delivering benefits across the region in line with Warlpiri aspirations and the pillars of education, employment and voice (governance and self-determination). #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWeek #BlakLoudProud

Footy came to Newmont Telfer when our operation hosted players and supporters from a number of communities across the Western Desert, including Nullagine (Irrungadji), Punmu, Kunawarritji, Kiwirrkurra and Hedland communities. Some of the keen Martu players travelled up to 800km for the event! Telfer has a rich history of supporting Martu’s Desert Sports Development Program which is now run by Ngurra Kujungka. On the first day, Telfer hosted the Western Desert Shield match under lights between Yapurra (west side communities) and Kakarra (east side communities). On the second day, a combined Martu team (the Western Desert Warriors), took on the mighty Telfer Geckos – our very own Newmont Telfer team captained by Martu man and Newmont trainee, Gethyn Derrell. A big crowd turned out at Telfer Oval to watch the match, which was won by the Warriors. Three bands also entertained the crowd on both evenings: the Yuti band from Strelley community led by Anthony Ginger; Wild Dingo Band from Punmu and Kunawarritji community led by Clifton Girgirba; and the Kiwirrkurra band from Kiwirrkurra community led by Erin West. ESS catered for both evenings with a large BBQ at the Sports Club down at the oval. What a great weekend! Thank you to the communities who travelled, those who pulled on the footy boots to have a run on the oval, and our Telfer Social Performance team and Ngurra Kujungka for making it all happen. #NAIDOC2024 #BlakLoudProud

Excitement abounded at the recent Get Into Resources Inc. event in Perth where 17 Newmont Australia volunteers hosted more than 300 students who participated in our debut Virtual Reality Experience: Mine to Mint in partnership with Gold Corporation - The Perth Mint. There were also plenty of willing ears to hear about the career journeys of our #apprentices, #graduates, #geologists and #engineers. Held from 25 to 27 June and hosted by North Metropolitan TAFE, the event attracted more than 500 students and an eager gaggle of teachers who came along to learn more about resources careers, join in on hands-on activities providing an immersive and practical experience, find out about technical, professional and trade roles available through both VET and ATAR pathways and interact with people who love what they do every day in Australia’s world-leading resources industry. Newmont Australia congratulates the Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation on its success in securing $2.1 million to establish an Aboriginal Land and Sea Ranger Program. Newmont provided a letter of support for GKBAC’s application, which will help them manage country and protect the environment in partnership with the public and private sectors through providing jobs for Aboriginal rangers and a plethora of other activities. We’ve also collaborated with South West Sustainability Partnership members to co-invest in support of GKBAC’s strategic feasibility and planning assessment to enable establishment of the GKB-Noongar Ranger Program currently being completed by the ABC (Aboriginal Biodiversity Conservation) Foundation Ltd. GKBAC members also designed one of our Boddington haul truck tray designs, shown here with GKBAC Executive and Community Partnership Agreement Relationship Committee members.
