The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston was recently awarded Massachusetts’ Best Hotel Spa 2024 by the World Spa Awards. Dyer Brown is proud to have designed new treatment rooms and redesigned the waiting area for the spa, and we’re excited to see this gorgeous space continue to be recognized!

This week saw the grand opening of Kismet Commerce's new location: a co-working and co-warehousing facility explicitly designed for small businesses and e-commerce entrepreneurs. Located in a former bagel factory, Dyer Brown performed a gut renovation to create this innovative space, featuring customizable workplace and storage units ranging from 100 to 2500 SF, a spacious café amenity space, phone booths, conference rooms, and a photo studio and shipping facilities available for all tenants. In the Hospitality world, a well-designed bathroom can go a long way to providing a memorable guest experience. Dyer Brown’s Principal and President, Brent Zeigler, AIA, IIDA gives his insight into what it takes to layout a great lavatory.

For the third summer in a row, Dyer Brown was pleased to host a group of rising freshman from the Apprentice Learning City Summer Internship. The program is a five week career exploration in STEAM and other careers where women are often underrepresented. To illustrate that design solutions revolve around inquiry, listening and iterating, the DBA team led the group through a basic design charrette. Each pair were asked to design a wallet for their partner without having interviewed them. They then shared their concept, asking their partner what features they would need or want in their wallet, altered their design accordingly, and had the chance to begin constructing the wallet from the materials provided. Students practiced public speaking skills by presenting their final designs to the large group. Thanks to Apprentice Learning for providing us with the opportunity to be inspired by the energy of this group!

Neocon is one of the most exhilarating architectural exhibits of the year where designers go to see the latest and most innovative products on the market. Here are three new systems that caught our eye.  Allsteel's intentional office’ setup allows several opportunities for efficient collaboration between teams. Flexible workspace, rotating workstations, soft seating, and an interactive whiteboard are attractive qualities for a productive office space. This aligns with the trend toward simplicity and flexibility that ensure functionality without compromising on aesthetic appeal. https://lnkd.in/gSCWJWfh Shaw Contract released PVC (polyvinyl chloride) free flooring. This aligns with the current movement of sustainability no longer being optional. It is a demand from clients and employees alike.  Lastly, Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering released a new collection of textiles and wallcoverings in collaboration with designer Yinka Ilori.  His sustainability-driven work uses an array of colors to inspire happiness and a sense of community. This collaboration with Momentum marks Yinka Ilori’s first venture into commercial textile and wallcovering design. Often known as “Architect of Joy,” Yinka's designs merge his British-Nigerian background with modernity by using dynamic patterns and breathtaking colors to craft compelling stories.

Founded in 1919, as an orphanage, after the influenza epidemic of 1918, Italian Home for Children services many avenues for our local Boston community. These include mental health services, in-home therapies, therapeutic mentoring, after school programs, camps, intensive group homes, residential treatment services, and a spiritual enrichment program. Our Dyer Brown volunteers made arts and crafts with their current children including their specialized neurodiverse community. With a focus on helping the children with a wide range of skills, together, we painted ornaments, crafted paper jellyfish, and created sensory bottles.
