US #cleanenergy jobs surged to 3.46 million in 2023, propelled by southern states and first full year of #InflationReductionAct investments. That's the latest from E2's 9th Annual Clean Jobs America report, which breaks the jobs data down to national, state, county, and metro levels. The data shows that the #cleanenergy transition is hard-wired into the US economy, as: - Clean energy companies added almost 150,000 jobs in 2023, growing more than 3x faster than overall US employment. - #EnergyEfficiency continued to lead the clean economy in total jobs. - Jobs in #manufacturing and other services (including vehicle maintenance and repair) accounted for nearly 60% of all new clean energy jobs. 🏗 IRA PROJECT OF THE DAY It's been two years since the passage of the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). So what has the IRA done so far ... and what's at risk if we go backward and roll back or reduce the policy? Here's your daily sample of the 340+ major clean energy projects announced since the passage of the IRA. (Want more? See E2.org/announcements or pick up a copy of my book, Clean Economy NOW www.cleaneconomynow.com). NEW YORK - I’m at Climate Week in New York this week, so for today's IRA Project of the Day, let’s go to my first stop in the Empire State: JFK Airport. There, one of the biggest solar and battery projects in the state is now under construction, thanks in part to support from the IRA. With enough solar panels to cover approximately 11 football fields, the new JFK solar panel-covered parking lot will produce enough energy – 12 megawatts – to power the AirTrain terminal connector train I rode last night, and also provide discounted electricity to nearby low-income communities. The project also includes 7.5 megawatts of battery storage that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey can tap into to reduce airport electricity demand during peak hours. As a bonus, the project will also provide shade for about 3,000 vehicles. And speaking of vehicles, when fully up and running in 2026, the project will produce enough clean energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 6,000 tons per year – the equivalent of reducing the pollution produced by driving 26 million vehicle miles, according to the Port Authority. 🏗 IRA PROJECT OF THE DAY It's been two years since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). So what has the IRA done so far ... and what's at risk if we go backward and roll back or reduce the policy? Here's your daily sample of the 330+ major clean energy projects announced since the passage of the IRA. But did you know that the No. 2 oil state in America is … New Mexico? Maybe just as surprisingly, New Mexico also quickly is becoming a leader in clean energy, thanks to state leadership and to federal policies like the Inflation Reduction Act. For today’s IRA Project of the Day, let’s go to Albuquerque, where solar cell and semiconductor manufacturer EBON SOLAR is building a $942 million solar cell factory that is expected to create more than 900 new jobs. The company is the U.S. subsidiary of a Singapore-based Ebang International. Attracting clean energy projects, jobs and investments has been a priority of New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard, as I learned about and detail in my book Clean Economy NOW. The IRA has helped turbocharge those efforts. “We have succeeded in making New Mexico a global center for advanced energy manufacturing,” Gov. Lujan Grisham said in a statement about the Ebon Solar announcement. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g9-B-c8i (Photo: Ebon Solar)

HOUSTON, TX – Texas is an energy state, but increasingly, the energy it's producing is clean and renewable. The Lone Star state leads the country in wind production, and is second only to California in solar and battery storage. Today’s IRA Project of the Day takes us to fossil fuel hub of Houston, where the Japanese company TMEIC Corp. just announced it is moving its U.S. headquarters and opening a 144,000-square-foot factory to build utility-scale PV inverters for solar farms. The company expects to hire 300 local workers for the factory. That’s in addition to nearly 300 workers it employs a factory in Roanoke, Va, where it makes industrial motors and automation systems. The TMEIC announcement was one of six major clean energy projects announced in August. For more on that, check out e2.org tomorrow, when we'll release our Clean Economy Works monthly tally of IRA-related projects, and update our cool interactive IRA tracking site here ⬇ ⬇ ⬇

Monday was Labor Day, so for today’s IRA Project of the Day let’s look at how the IRA is reviving an old industry and creating new union jobs. Chicago-based Century Aluminum announced recently it is planning to open the nation’s first aluminum smelter in 45 years, thanks to funding made possible by the IRA. The smelter will produce made-in-America metals critical for electric vehicles, renewable energy and storage. Better yet, the company says by using renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, its new "green smelter" will produce 75 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than a traditional smelter. In addition to breathing new life into an old but necessary heavy industry in America, the project is expected to create 1,000 new full-time U.S. Steelworker union jobs and 5,000 construction jobs. That's solid. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gvv458s8 and here: https://lnkd.in/gcd-WGzU

We're at the advent of the biggest economic revolution we’ve seen in generations in this country. Here's who gets hurt if we choose to go backward again on climate and clean energy.
