Aniket Doegar started his teaching career in a Pune classroom with a clear goal: "I was doing all of this to build my resume so that I could go to Harvard or Oxford and study," he explains. However, a conversation shifted his perspective: "I remember talking to one of my students' parents and I asked if they knew about government pension programs. And they said, no, we don't even have basic documents." This encounter ignited a question that would redefine his career: How many others were missing out on essential services due to simple unawareness? Determined to find a solution, Aniket founded Haqdarshak. The platform uses technology to bridge the information gap, connecting India's underserved populations with government welfare benefits. They have developed a comprehensive database of over 7,000 welfare schemes and deployed a network of local women, their haqdarshaks, to help people navigate these complex entitlements. To date, Haqdarshak has impacted over 6 million lives, successfully facilitating 3.5 million benefit applications. Aniket was recently selected as a Fellow for the Unreasonable GOALS program 'https://lnkd.in/eNetku6A', a collaboration between Unreasonable and the U.S. Department of State. This program brings together entrepreneurs, institutions, and investors to accelerate the world's ability to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. When Christie Lagally, a former aerospace engineer, transitioned from engineering to food production, she took on a new challenge: solving one of the biggest issues in the industry. Growing up with a deep connection to animals and the environment, Christie became aware of the devastating impact of industrial meat production. But instead of just advocating for change, she decided to engineer it. In 2017, she founded Rebellyous Foods — an Unreasonable company — with a clear mission: to make plant-based meat affordable and accessible to everyone. Drawing from her engineering background, she applied the same principles she once used to build airplanes to food production, designing innovative manufacturing systems to scale plant-based meat. Today, Rebellyous Foods is at the forefront of food technology, working to make plant-based meat as cost-effective and widely available as traditional meat. Recently, Rebellyous launched their Mock 2 production system in partnership with RMS Foods at a facility in New Mexico. This new technology is a significant step forward, allowing Rebellyous to produce up to 5,000 lbs of plant-based meat per hour. By improving efficiency, reducing costs, and minimizing waste, the Mock 2 system is helping them bring affordable plant-based chicken nuggets, tenders, and patties to schools, restaurants, and homes across the country. A big congratulations to Christie Lagally and the Rebellyous Foods team for this achievement, moving the food industry closer to a more sustainable and humane future. Allison Dring, CEO and Founder of Made of Air, experienced a turning point while developing solutions to improve urban air quality. Despite efforts to create environmentally beneficial products, the reliance on fossil plastics remained a contradiction. “It was frustrating to see that even as we aimed to help the planet, we were still dependent on fossil materials,” she explains. This realization led to the creation of Made of Air, an Unreasonable Company dedicated to transforming bio-waste into carbon-negative materials to help reverse climate change. Made of Air enhances what nature provides through science, creating super-engineered biocarbon. By sourcing renewable biomass and applying their proprietary process, they turn bio-waste into functional materials that act as carbon sinks. The more their materials are used, the more CO₂ is permanently removed from the atmosphere. Made of Air is working with industry leaders like H&M and Audi and producing carbon-negative boards for construction, demonstrating that sustainable materials can be both practical and scalable. “We're moving toward an economy where bio resources will replace fossil fuels as the building blocks of our cities and products,” Allison notes. Made of Air’s materials are central to this shift, offering a pathway to a net-zero economy by creating products that actively sequester carbon. Their work exemplifies a new vision of manufacturing, where every product contributes to healing the planet. Garrett Gerson was deeply immersed in the fashion industry, running a successful apparel business, when a documentary made him rethink everything. After watching The True Cost, which exposed the harsh realities of the fashion industry's social and environmental impacts, he realized he was contributing to the very problem he had always aimed to avoid. Soon after, he sold his business and began exploring more sustainable approaches to clothing production. That journey led to the creation of VARIANT3D, an Unreasonable Company that leverages 3D knitting technology to create textiles on demand, eliminating waste and providing full transparency from fiber to finished product. Since founding Variant 3D, Garrett and his team have pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in textiles. Their patented technology allows companies to design and manufacture products faster than ever before, all while eliminating the inefficiencies of traditional methods. Whether it's custom footwear, complex garments, or even components for the automotive industry, Variant 3D is transforming how things are made—revolutionizing an industry that touches every part of our lives. Most recently, Variant 3D’s LOOP™ software was recognized as a Top 12 Finalist in Fast Company's 2024 World Changing Ideas Awards in the ‘Best World-Changing Idea North America’ category.
