Tradepoint Atlantic and Sparrows Point Container Terminal (SPCT) published a report completed by EA that verified that the dredged material from the southern part of the Sparrows Point Channel qualifies for ocean disposal under Section 103 of the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act. Earlier this year, EA worked with SPCT to conduct an extensive survey to assess whether sediments in the South Channel segment of the Sparrows Point Channel were suitable for ocean placement. The results of the survey indicated that 1.57 million cubic yards of material (over one-third of the total dredged volume required for the container terminal) meet the MPRSA criteria for ocean placement. This represents a significant achievement for the SPCT Project, which is expected to create more than 8,000 jobs and contribute $1.5 billion annually to Maryland’s economy. At EA, we are proud to be a mission-driven social enterprise that combines our PBC Framework, CSR Program, and ESOP ownership structure to making a positive impact on the world while building equitable wealth for our employees. This ESOP Month, we celebrate our employee-owners who are at the heart of our success. Through our innovative projects, active community involvement, and commitment to creating an inclusive culture of belonging, we strive to do good in every aspect of our work. Together, we are not just building a company, but a better future for everyone. EA contributes to research that has built an extensive body of knowledge on servant leadership and employee ownership. Most recently, we were highlighted in a paper entitled, “Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) as social enterprises” that was published in the International Review of Applied Economics earlier this month by Daphne Berry. The paper focuses on the commonalities between ESOPs and social enterprises. #MissionDriven #SocialEnterprise #ESOPMonth #ESOP #EmployeeOwnership

Environmental Sequence Stratigraphy (ESS) helps contextualize site data within a stratigraphic framework to confirm observations, highlight anomalous features, and help identify and close hydrogeologic data gaps. EA held a webinar, led by Dan Walker, Ph.D. A.M. ASCE, to explore the underlying principles of ESS and its growing role in the development of conceptual site models (CSMs) for contaminated sites. An overview of the principles of ESS, how it differs from traditional approaches, and areas of application were presented, as well as case studies with a series of depositional environments and areas for innovation. #ESS #EnvironmentalSequenceStratigraphy #ESSWebinar #Geology #Stratigraphy #EnvironmentalScience #Remediation #SiteCharacterization

EA’s Neil Fuller led the development of a recently published peer-review paper that focused on the chronic toxicity of novel PFAS–free firefighting foams to aquatic organisms. The results for PFAS-free foams were compared to data for a previously used firefighting foam that contains PFAS. Along with Neil, authors include a team of EA PFAS and toxicology professionals along with representatives from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Purdue University, Texas Tech University, and the NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. The paper is published by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and is the outcome of EA’s current SERDP & ESTCP project: Multi-Taxa Ecotoxicity of Novel PFAS-Free Firefighting Formulations: Aquatic and Terrestrial Species (https://lnkd.in/eRDq2unA).
