We were thrilled to receive these terrific doggie gift boxes from our generous friends at Adobe! In partnership with Project Helping, their thoughtful efforts are making a real difference for pet owners in our community. We had the pleasure of distributing the boxes at our recent Pet Food Pantry, bringing joy to local pets and their owners!

Today's Adoption Tail comes to us from East Bay SPCA, which received a grant from PEDIGREE Foundation to hire a new Behavior Animal Care Coordinator. Little Lucy was a direct beneficiary of this grant! When she arrived at East Bay SPCA, she had a severe sensitivity to handling, which made it very difficult to pick her up or put a leash on her. East Bay SPCA's behavior team helped Lucy learn commands like "up" and "down" that alleviated the need to handle her directly, and in time her social personality began to shine! Lucy and her adopter received post-adoption support as well, including extra training sessions and counter-conditioning to help Lucy tolerate touch. We're so thrilled to hear Lucy is doing well!

Telemedicine is Here! We're proud to announce that our veterinary clinic has expanded services to include virtual appointments! In 2024, California approved establishing a veterinarian-client-patient relationship via a video/audio conference (zoom, teams, etc.). This means that a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine can now diagnose, order diagnostics, and prescribe without the animal having to physically come in to see the doctor. Telemedicine appointments are time-efficient, affordable, and easier on our pets' nerves than in-person visits. With this addition to our services we hope to make care accessible to even more individuals, and not just in the East Bay. We're now able to offer fear-free consultations, flea and tick prevention, medication check-ins, and more to any pet owner residing in California. Book an appointment today: https://lnkd.in/gY94sghZ

June 15 in Oakland: Dr. Sophie Liu leads From Chaotic to Calm, a half-day seminar and training workshop on improving leash reactivity. You'll have a chance to learn what science tells us about reactive behaviors in dogs, and watch in real-time as dogs go through the basics of how to begin to manage these behaviors. The intersection of behavior and veterinary studies is so important, but few individuals hold credentials in both fields. Because of this, hiring their services can be prohibitively expensive. This is why we are thrilled to host Dr. Liu for this groundbreaking, affordable community seminar! From Chaotic to Calm: Improving Leash Reactivity 8323 Baldwin St., Oakland June 15, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. General admission is humans-only. Register here: https://bit.ly/3ylXMF8

Shaping a Compassionate and Prepared Community 🌟 🐾 We're thrilled to share that our VP of Operations, Karalyn Aranow, and our esteemed Shelter Vet, Dr. Katherine Swanson, recently presented at the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) event in Union City, California! The event, titled "Union City & Newark CERT: Animal Sheltering During Emergencies," provided a fantastic platform for sharing invaluable insights into providing care and shelter for animals during challenging times. They delved into various aspects of animal emergency response, including proper handling techniques, basic animal first aid, and creating safe environments for animals in crisis situations. We're incredibly proud of Karalyn and Dr. Swanson for their dedication to animal welfare and their commitment to sharing their expertise with the community. Their participation underscores East Bay SPCA's ongoing efforts to educate and empower individuals to support animals in need during emergencies. East Bay SPCA's very own Karalyn Aronow, CAWA, took the stage at the annual conference held by The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement (AAWA) in November 2023. Her workshop, titled "Behavior Evaluation: Providing Progressive Pathways for People and Pups," was a highlight of the Industry Innovations Track. Watch Now 👉️ https://lnkd.in/grRZhwNd Karalyn's talk delved into the proactive measures taken by East Bay SPCA to address the challenge of large, high-arousal dogs in shelters. By restructuring our behavior evaluation process and implementing a comprehensive staff and volunteer training program, we witnessed remarkable improvements. These initiatives have led to expanded staff engagement and career opportunities, enhanced volunteer retention, and increased adoptability of dogs in their care. Karalyn Aronow is no stranger to leadership in the animal welfare sector. As the Vice President of Operations at East Bay SPCA and a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator, she brings over a decade of experience to the table. Karalyn's dedication to the field is evident through her involvement in various industry initiatives, including serving on committees and contributing to the development of guidelines for shelter dog enrichment. Her impact ensures that East Bay SPCA remains at the forefront of positive change in the industry. Mark your calendars for the upcoming 2024 AAWA Conference in New Orleans this November, where industry leaders like Karalyn will continue to share insights and strategies for advancing animal welfare.
