IMA President & CEO Mark Denzler had the honor of joining Governor JB Pritzker, lawmakers and representatives from a coalition of business, environment and labor sectors this afternoon as the Governor signed nation-leading carbon capture legislation into law. Today, Illinois is building a stronger economy while advancing clean energy goals. “This law smartly and safely advances carbon capture and storage in Illinois, which will help increase economic development, advance our clean energy goals and create new jobs. It will also allow us to unlock important new technology, such as sustainable aviation fuel, which is key to a greener transportation sector. We thank Governor Pritzker for his leadership on this issue, and extend our appreciation to Deputy Governor for Public Safety, Infrastructure, Environment, and Energy Bria Scudder, Senate President Pro Tempore Bill Cunningham, House Assistant Majority Leader Jay Hoffman, and partners in agriculture and labor for their work in shaping this agreement. This is proof that by working together, we can decarbonize our environment without deindustrializing our economy." - Mark Denzler, President and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association. This funding will bring a wealth of local opportunities — from expanding and building lab space at the Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory, ADM, and Synonym to creating new jobs. “The jobs that will come because of iFAB are a whole range of educational backgrounds, interest levels, — whether or not you care about science, there are roles for so many people in these industries," Beth Conerty with IBRL said. The EDC's Economic Development Officer, Andrew Taylor, attended last week's 2024 IEDA Summit in Chicago and was happy to connect with other economic development professionals in the state.
Thank you to the over 150 economic developers and partners who attended the IEDA 2024 Illinois Economic Development Summit on June 20 and 21! Attendees heard from Illinois Deputy Governor for Budget and Economy Andy Manar, DCEO Director Kristen Richards, Tom Baron of the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Chicago office, DCEO, Intersect Illinois, and many other panels discussing the current and future state of economic development in Illinois. Following presentations on June 20, attendees enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at an outdoor networking reception at a patio along the Chicago River. Thanks again to our very generous sponsors! The IEDA Summit is not possible without their support.
