Edge partnered with a leading biotech company to develop a circulating tumor cell isolation device which is currently on the market. The device’s requirements were anything but simple: - Sub-micron feature precision across tens of thousands of features - Minimal birefringence and low background fluorescence for optimal imaging - Tightly controlled flatness across the entire part for consistent z-height focal planes For over a decade, Edge has been the trusted supplier for this device's core backbone, consistently delivering precision parts without requiring tool replacements. We also refined inspection and sampling to optimize costs without compromising on quality. Here’s a glimpse of our team in action, being trained on our new piece of manufacturing technology: the Dukane laser welding system. This advanced system enables us to increase production volumes while reducing part costs compared to other assembly technologies. We're excited to see the impact this will have on our manufacturing processes and the value we deliver. Continuously improving our manufacturing capabilities is key to providing more value to our customers—it's one of our top priorities. Why should you consider compression molding? Here's an example of how Edge saved a customer's product by switching them over from injection molding. This customer found out, after launch, that the plastic-to-plastic bond in their product, created between two injection molded parts, failed after a number of weeks. Internal stresses introduced as part of the injection molding process caused the parts to delaminate over time. This was on top of an already poor yield for parts that simply cracked during the initial bonding step. Compression molded parts have far less internal stress, and this customer found that making a simple swap of an Edge compression molded part dramatically increased both their manufacturing yield as well as the shelf like of the product. We love challenges like this, and are dedicated to solving them using our novel manufacturing technology. At Edge we often talk about wells or pillars molded at a micron scale. Our technology allows us to do a wide variety of geometry with single digit or even sub-micron accuracy. Below is an example of an array of microneedles we molded years ago, and we've continually refined our technology and capabilities to achieve as low as 500nm radius on the tip of a microneedle. Our molding technology yields highly reproducible geometry, even at this size scale. Part pricing is significant lower than those made by traditional microneedle fabrication methods or by 3D printing. #microtechnology #microneedles #precisionmolding
