I'm excited to speak at the SANS Digital Forensics and Incident Response Summit in Salt Lake City this Friday, where I'll present the basics of Drone Forensic Opportunities! I've been tackling technical analysis of drone systems for seven years, a personal passion that grew out of my work at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) Rogue Squadron. I have witnessed the vital role that drones have played in various operations, such as saving firefighters' lives during wildfires and guiding rescue teams out of dangerous situations, like the Kilauea volcanic eruption in Hawaii. These unmanned systems have demonstrated their positive impact in numerous ways. However, it's important to note that these capabilities can also be misused for illegal activities, such as smuggling contraband into prisons, disrupting power infrastructure, and conducting unauthorized aerial surveillance. Digital forensics for drones plays a critical role in national security and law enforcement during such circumstances, assisting with necessary intelligence and investigation functions across corporations and state, local, tribal, territorial, and federal agencies. Researching, documenting, and understanding these aircraft at a deeply technical level has been an exciting experience. Although I won't be able to cover everything in my 30-minute talk, I'm thrilled to share some fascinating insights.
