In a major push to address AI’s role in education, a diverse group of advocates, led by the EDSAFE AI Alliance, EducationCounsel and SIIA , is calling on Congress to create a federal forum focused on ethical and responsible AI use in schools. This coalition, which includes SETDA, Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), Committee for Children, National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD), and National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, aims to ensure AI policies prioritize equity, student privacy, and civil rights. We stress the importance of federal collaboration to develop cohesive guidelines, funding, and support for safe, impactful AI in education. With many districts already using AI, a unified approach from lawmakers is critical to avoid inconsistent practices. Together, we can shape a future where AI responsibly empowers educators and students. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g6iGwTTY #AIinEducation #EdTech #EducationPolicy #EthicalAI #EquityInEducation

🌟 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the AI Tinkery at the Stanford Accelerator for Learning. The AI Tinkery is a physical space where scholars, students and educators can come and tinker with AI tools. Tinkery represents a bold leap forward in experiential learning, harnessing the power of AI to cultivate empathy and understanding among educators and learners. In a world that increasingly needs connection, our platform empowers individuals to engage deeply with diverse perspectives, transforming how we learn and grow together. We believe that learning and education should inspire curiosity and compassion. With the AI Tinkery, we aim to create immersive experiences that not only educate but also unite. A heartfelt thank you to Karin Forssell and Jessica, and to Isabel Sacks for the great write-up. Together, we’re shaping the future of learning. Join us on this journey! Stanford Accelerator for Learning 🚀
AI is one of the biggest question marks of the past two years for educators, school administrators, and district leaders. Inspired by the concept of a makerspace, the Accelerator's new AI Tinkery empowers educators to explore what they want and need to know about AI. “Together, we’ll brainstorm, debate, and discuss what we should and should not do with AI," said Karin Forssell, director of the AI Tinkery and a faculty affiliate of the Accelerator. Located in a colorful corner of the first floor of the Center for Educational Research at Stanford (CERAS) and online, the AI Tinkery offers access to AI tools, research, and use cases in classrooms; guidance for effective and ethical use; and opportunities to build community and share ideas with other educators. 🌟 NEW: Analysis of AI "Early Adopters" plus AI Policy 101 for System Leaders and Policymakers 🌟 Some schools and districts are at the forefront of AI adoption—how are they using the technology and what can other systems learn from them? To learn more about these “early adopter” schools and systems, CRPE launched a new study to identify them and learn more about their system-wide AI strategies and how they’re implementing policy guidance. Today, we’re releasing a few tools from this study: a preliminary database of emerging school system AI strategies and an initial analysis of the emerging trends. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e_-Rtjgb PLUS: As a legal battle in Massachusetts over a district’s lack of AI policy gains national attention, understanding how vanguard districts are handling this complex issue is now more important than ever. In addition to the research above, we’ve also created our first AI and Education Policy 101 Guide—this summary of the AI policy landscape also includes recommendations for districts and state policymakers who want to implement effective, equitable AI policy. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eWCz-b5S As Bree Dusseault, CRPE managing director commented, “As we learned during the pandemic, students and educators benefit from proactive, thoughtful approaches to new technology and change. School systems that wait to acknowledge AI risk furthering confusion, misuse, and political vulnerability.”
