The Education Law Center’s mission is to ensure access to a quality public education for all children in Pennsylvania. We pursue this mission by focusing on the most underserved students: children living in poverty, children of color, children with disabilities, children in the foster care and juvenile justice systems, children experiencing homelessness, English learners, LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming students – and many who are at the intersection of these identities.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, let's celebrate & recommit to the teaching of truthful history in our schools. The battle to do so must continue, in the face of organized opposition to teaching about the history and reality of systemic racism. Starting with the history of Juneteenth itself. It wasn't "news" about emancipation that traveled slowly; it was the power & the will to enforce it. "Even following the arrival of the power to enforce the emancipation order in the form of the United States Army, enslaved people were left with much of the responsibility to seize their own freedom."
