“While 55% of U.S. students are children of color, only 22% of teachers and 23% of principals reflect this diversity. This gap has significant consequences for our education system—but it doesn’t have to be this way.” We know that a racially and culturally diverse teacher workforce benefits all #students. The latest brief from the One Million Teachers of Color Campaign shares a research-backed, holistic approach to increasing the representation of educators of color in our schools. Education Resource Strategies reposted this
Had a great time in Birmingham, AL earlier this month, exploring state policies that help reimagine the teaching role with my colleague Ventura Rodriguez from Education Resource Strategies. Many thanks to Seth Gerson and the entire National Governors Association team for creating the space for shared learning among governors' education policy advisors. The innovations we shared are taking hold thanks to leaders in the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Texas Education Agency. Props to Brenda Berg, Leah Sutton and the BEST NC: Business for Educational Success and Transformation in NC team for their terrific case study on Advanced Teaching Roles in North Carolina.
Excited to have presented with David Rosenberg at the recent National Governors Association convening for state education advisors. We had a chance to present Education Resource Strategies' work on Reimagining the Teaching Job as a lever for addressing educator workforce challenges.
