𝗜𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗦 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱? In our recent posts and blog — "𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗦 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰" — we explored through data and research how the features that made traditional SaaS accessible and scalable are now the very aspects holding businesses back. 𝗣𝗮𝘆-𝗽𝗲𝗿-𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗲-𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗦 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 — these have had less-than-ideal implications for enterprises. - Businesses are overpaying for software via under-utilized SaaS apps & seats - Employees spend too much time trying to find and reconcile the right data - Complexity reigns in the average enterprise, instead of a holistic intelligence across data and systems that can be acted upon for tangible RoI & business outcomes And the addition of GenAI chatbots and co-pilots within traditional SaaS won't help, as the above problems still remain. In our latest blog, we explain why enterprise software will look radically different in the age of AI — particularly Agentic AI, which enables integrated, horizontal, adaptive intelligence across apps and systems, acting on data intelligently towards tangible business outcomes, so that there is no more need for pay-per-seat pricing. A new era of outcome-based pricing awaits. And incumbent SaaS players have both a technological and business model disruption to contend with. Do you agree?

It's time to admit it: the current state of enterprise software is broken. SaaS tools were built to make work easier, and they did improve enterprise productivity compared to the previous era of on-prem software — doing away with tedious installations, security patches, and maintenance. But fast forward to 2024, and the very features that made SaaS successful are holding businesses back today: 1️⃣ 𝗣𝗮𝘆-𝗽𝗲𝗿-𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: Businesses are grappling with extra or under-utilized SaaS seats, overpaying for software with low RoI and accountability. 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱: With hundreds of SaaS tools deployed in the average enterprise, the number of people and hours spent managing them has also ballooned. 3️⃣ 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀: SaaS apps have become embedded in narrow, vertical use-cases, creating overlapping sets of data within apps that don't talk to each other — which means more complexity, instead of intelligence that can be acted upon. In this conversation with Anagh Prasad at Accel, Accel Atoms, I talk about how these factors drive us at Ema Unlimited to 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. The igniting spark behind why we started Ema Unlimited was one major fact — 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀. And with the rise of AI, many are asking what this means for SaaS, as SaaS companies scramble to integrate GenAI chatbots and co-pilots into their solutions. But this won’t solve the deeper, fundamental issue: 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗦 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻. Despite the proliferation of software, humans are still doing most of the work—if not more. 1️⃣ 𝗨𝗻𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗦 𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀: Research finds that over 𝟰𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗧 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 believe their biggest challenge is finding under-utilized SaaS licences within their companies. The average spend per employee on SaaS tools has ballooned to $𝟯𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, with businesses under significant pressure to downsize and ensure actual RoI from software investments. 2️⃣ 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀: The average knowledge worker is spending about 𝟭𝟮 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 "𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮" — a direct result of the data silos and narrow, vertical use-cases that SaaS apps become embedded in. Instead of enabling intelligent action on data across apps and systems, people at work are getting bogged down by trying to identify the right sources of information. 3️⃣ 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘆-𝗣𝗲𝗿-𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: The average enterprise is already 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗦 tools, which charge for access to software by the number of seats or users who need it, irrespective of the value being realized from it. And simply adding GenAI "add-ons" and features within fragmented SaaS use-cases and apps won't help, because the data silos will still exist, as will the problems SaaS set out to solve — that of improving enterprise productivity. What we need is a new vision for enterprise software — and we believe this future lies in 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗜. In this future, enterprise software goes from being mere tools that assist (and sometimes complicate) human work — to actually being 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀, 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗜 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀. 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱 — 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲. In the next-gen enterprise stack, 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 will flourish as an integrated part of the enterprise, executing workflows end-to-end and collaborating intelligently, as the organization's 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺.
