Who could have thought that I could successfully pull off a one active week of coordinating and facilitating the Initial Orientation Training for a very active and enthusiastic group of Cohort 1 Public Service Fellows??? Last week, alongside my colleagues Richard Okai Msc,MPM,CKM from EPL Global and Sadia G. Stubblefield from PYPP in Liberia in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and Mastercard Foundation, I had the privilege of coordinating an insightful and fully packed orientation training for Cohort 1 public Service Fellow whose main aim was to prepare the Public Service Fellows for work in the public service, before they go and serve in different Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the country. While trainings are very common activities in many offices, this one had to be different, purposeful and exciting. From the careful selection of facilitators, to the careful blending of training approaches, to sustaining the momentum for both the facilitators and the fellows, I should say it was a process which called for some kind of dexterity and high-level coordination. The training dived deep into different modules such as, An Overview of the Malawi 2063 which was delivered by Chingwengwe Austin from the National Planning Commission , Introduction to Malawi Public Service Regulations, Professionalism and Ethical conduct, Digital Communications delivered by Vincent Kumwenda, Report writing, Government correspondence by Jane Kambalame, Effective Communication, Personal Branding Business and Social Etiquette , Personal Financial Management and Effective Leadership by Dickens Thunde and Many more modules by different experts . Many thanks also to our Emerging Public Leaders of Malawi board chairperson Mr. Arthur Chibwana, for gracing the opening ceremony as the guest of honour. We were very much honoured to have you sir. At the end of the training, I confidently said to the fellows; Go ye and serve well, do not be afraid to dare and practice new things, it is from such pursuits that we deeply learn, unlearn and improve on our different learning and growth ambitions. Go and make us proud. Many thanks to all the facilitators who came from different sectors to share their expertise with the Public Service Fellows, you made this training possible.
