EMH&T staff had a blast at the United Way of Central Ohio, NBC4, and Columbus Crew’s Stuff the Backpack event earlier in the month. We helped stuff backpacks with supplies for students in Franklin, Licking, Union, and Fairfield counties. We worked with other volunteers to pack 10,000 backpacks so that incoming students can start the school year with essential supplies!

EMH&T water resource engineering experts Shawn Arden and Doug Turney attended and spoke at this year’s Ohio Statewide Floodplain Management (OFMA) Conference. OFMA is a Division of the Water Management Association of Ohio with the mission of promoting sound and effective floodplain management. This week the organization brings together floodplain management professionals throughout Ohio to educate attendees on various aspects of floodplain management. Shawn is the OFMA Secretary and spoke about climate change and its impact on how we will manage stormwater and flood risk. Doug educated attendees on a review of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements for scour at bridges. Both gentlemen have had distinguished professional careers dedicated to the analysis, planning, and design of resilient solutions for wet weather-related concerns. Also shown in attendance is a member of EMH&T’s Water Resources Division’s Engineer Matt Stechschulte.

Join us on August 28th for our Government Spotlight Virtual Event, 𝙇𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙐𝙎: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘽𝙍𝙏 𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙊𝙝𝙞𝙤! The addition of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to our region’s existing network of public transportation will allow the system to better meet transit demands, take more cars off the road, and get riders where they need to go faster. BRT can seamlessly supplement the existing system by expanding the reach and capacity of bus service along strategic corridors. It has many promises, one of which is enhancing the economic development prospects along the route and improving overall metropolitan economic performance. Derrick R. EMH&T completed master planning and design for the redevelopment of the Scioto Peninsula in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Our work included the reconstruction of 10 roadways, totaling nearly two miles. The roadways were rebuilt with high quality streetscape finishes, including granite curbing, pavers crosswalks, and street trees. Green stormwater management solutions were also implemented, including permeable pavements and bio-retention gardens. New waterlines, sanitary, and storm sewers were also installed in the roadways. Additionally, we designed over five miles of buried conduit banks for the undergrounding all overhead wires in the district.

One of our core sectors that we provide design and architecture services is within the Commercial Trucking business. These projects require an immense amount of coordination with our Civil Engineers (EMH&T) to understand zoning, accessibility and environmental impact. We work to optimize these cross-dock facilities for loading / unloading, storage, maintenance, technology and administrative needs with the goal always being to create the most functional and efficient trucking facilities for our clients.
