Empower Work is thrilled to welcome Tina W. to our Board of Directors during this pivotal moment in scaling our mission. Tina brings a unique perspective to the board as she has supported our mission as a volunteer, staff member, advisor, and now Board member. She has over 15 years of marketing and operations expertise and has an extensive background in scaling high-growth startups. As we celebrate Tina's addition, we also celebrate Jyot Bawa and Emily Kramer, who will transition to Board Emeritus roles. Their contributions have been invaluable in driving our growth and impact. Since our launch in 2018, Empower Work has taken a unique approach to improving the mental health and economic mobility of more than 400,000 historically marginalized workers through our national work text line, training programs, and data and insights that drive change. As we continue our growth towards our goal of serving 3M people, expanding the expertise of the Board is key. With Tina and our current Board, team, volunteers, champions, and workers we connect with - we look forward to the work to come to reach millions of people in the years ahead. In our latest report, The Hidden Realities of Job Searching in 2024, we found that 78% of people are actively searching for work because they are dissatisfied, underemployed, or unemployed. That leaves only 22% of workers that are happily employed. As one survey respondent shared: “I am a 70 year old female and work with clients with developmental disabilities which I love. It is a rewarding job, but doesn’t meet my financial needs. Even with what I receive from social security, I still live paycheck to paycheck.” Read the full report to learn more about our findings: https://buff.ly/3zc0U7c

Nearly four out of five people want decent jobs and can’t find them. 78% are looking for work because they are unemployed, underemployed, or dissatisfied. Workers across the U.S. are in a hidden struggle - seeking jobs that meet their basic needs with little success. A stunning four out of five workers want jobs and can’t find them. Workplace issues are nothing new, but there’s a story going untold: the majority of workers do not feel like the job market is good - and it’s taking a toll emotionally and economically. Today, we launched our new report, The Hidden Realities of Job Searching in 2024, which tells that story. Earlier this year, Empower Work began to see a sharp increase in job loss and job search in text line conversations. Job search and job loss went from 13% of text line volume in 2018 to over 40% in 2024. Seeing the spike in distressed job seekers, we sought to understand what is happening for workers right now as they look for work. We wanted to explore insights not just in the moment when workers reached out on the text line for support, but more broadly for workers over time. The report highlights seven key findings, one being that only 22% of workers are happily employed - the other 78% are actively looking for work because they are dissatisfied, underemployed, or unemployed. This report would not be possible without the sponsorship of Visible by Verizon, pro-bono support provided by Milltown Partners, along with number of organizations who have shared the survey with their communities including Community Legal Services, CodePath, ColorStack, New Door Ventures, NPower, Per Scholas, Techtonica, WorkMoney, and YUPRO Placement. To all the workers who engaged through the survey and interviews, we’re extremely grateful for you sharing your story and experience with us. Empower Work was highlighted in this piece that aired on WALB-TV over the weekend. Though the origin story isn’t correct, the piece shows the deep need and impact of our service for workers across the U.S. We’re so grateful to the Ivanhoe Broadcast News Series team for shining a light on our work. Since this aired in Albany, GA, we've seen a surge in people texting the line for support. If you, or someone you know is struggling at work, reach out to our text line at 510-674-1414 for free, confidential support. https://lnkd.in/d5ewE3CN
