🤔 Did you know that the workplace is the 5th leading cause of deaths in the US, higher than Alzheimer's or kidney disease? Some factors include excessive work hours + lack of health care, according to Stanford Professor Jeffrey Pfeffer's findings in his book, "Dying for a Paycheck." 😭 I was disgusted to find out that the recent accolades allotted to JP Morgan for capping junior bankers hours were under false pretenses, making "exceptions for live deals." Every deal is live! A junior banker told me. 😢 I have had far too many coaching sessions with women in tears due to a toxic colleague or boss who is sabotaging them, belittling them, downright screaming at them in public - and I have also been that employee. These days we are experiencing a great deal of polarization and tension with regard to how different people view #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion. Often, these tensions can best be understood and addressed from a #paradox perspective. I wrote about this and explored three of these paradoxes in detail in my article in The Journal of Applied Behavioral Science (JABS), "Paradoxes of Inclusion: Understanding and Managing the Tensions of Diversity and Multiculturalism." These paradoxes--related to self-expression and identity, boundaries and norms, and safety and comfort--are summarized in the two figures from the article, included here. What should your company do when it comes to NDAs? For proprietary info? Yea. For harassment, assault, ethics? Don’t even make them an option. Then there is incentive to deal with the problem that occurred rather than silencing the employee. I can’t even express the number of women I’ve had in my courses who have told me that when they spoke out against bad behavior, were whistleblowers or were harassed themselves, they either were bullied into leaving, got fired or “laid off.” That includes me. More upsettingly, years later the perpetrators still were at the company. Doesn’t it make you want to throw up? The gold standard for NDA legislation, rendering all non-disclosure and non-disparagement clauses unenforceable in cases of harassment or discrimination. “Closing the Gap: A Synthesis Report on the Cases for the ROI of Women's Inclusion,” the final report on the WI-ROI case study series, sheds light on the positive impact of women-inclusive investments in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This synthesis report showcases promising models of women-inclusive investments through case studies with two SMEs: Grean World in #Ethiopia and Okeba in #Uganda. By leveraging the WI-ROI Framework, MSP analyzed the financial impact of their inclusive strategies, revealing significant returns on investment. 📈 Evidence Highlights: -Grean World's shift to a women-centered sales approach resulted in a 35% increase in profits, driven by reduced costs and increased sales in rural areas. -Okeba's investment in onsite childcare led to improved worker performance, decreasing costs per unit and creating considerable value for the company. 🌐 Implications: The WI-ROI Framework not only offers a tool for assessing financial returns but also paves the way for scalable and impactful inclusive business models.
