There is a widespread occurrence of Salmonella in animals, especially poultry and swine. Environmental sources of the organism include water, soil, insects, factory surfaces, kitchen surfaces, animal feces, raw meats, raw poultry, raw seafoods, and more. All age groups are susceptible, but symptoms are the most severe in the elderly, infants, and the infirm. To assist with identifying foodborne pathogens, EMSL provides presence/absence tests for Salmonella. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/eFFGu2Tv. Air quality monitoring within a food processing facility is a crucial component of maintaining a comprehensive environmental monitoring program. Without proper engineering for directing the flow of air and active monitoring of the air within the processing areas, bioaerosols may become a source of product contamination that compromises the safety and quality of foods produced. In addition to direct contamination of the product, the bioaerosols may land on processing surfaces or equipment and when the right conditions exist (e.g., moisture, organic matter), the physical surfaces harboring microbial contaminants have the potential to be a vector of cross-contamination. Compressed air can also come in direct contact with food products. For example, it can be utilized for adding air into packages to protect food products such as a bag of chips or for cleaning debris off large surfaces that come in contact with the products. Since compressed air can harbor microorganisms and contribute to the contamination of the finished products, it is important that all types of air systems with potential product safety and spoilage implications are continually monitored. EMSL offers analysis of Aerobic Plate Count (EMSL Test Code F163) and Yeast and Mold (EMSL Test Code F164). To learn more about Ambient and Compressed Air testing, visit https://lnkd.in/ecxcJXty. Spore traps, such Air-O-Cell, Allergenco-D, Micro5, and MoldSnap, use a combination of a pump and cassettes to capture the spores in the air and allow our laboratories to identify and quantify fungal spores, hyphal fragments, pollen, insect fragments, skin fragments, and fibrous particulate. EMSL is the leading commercial Mold Testing Laboratory throughout the U.S. and Canada, operating 30 AIHA EMLAP and 5 A2LA Accredited mold testing laboratories. Other services include culturable air samples; direct examination via tape, bulk, swab, and water samples; and PCR and DNA testing. Did you know Asbestos cement pipes make up 12-15% of drinking water systems in the U.S.? Asbestos in the water supply at certain levels constitutes a health risk to the public. In 1974, the EPA passed the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to determine the level of contamination in drinking water to which no adverse health effects are likely to occur. Asbestos was added as a contaminant to the SDWA in 1992 and was added to the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWR) in 1995. To assist with identifying potential asbestos in drinking water, EMSL provides testing via TEM EPA Method 100.2 (Asbestos in Drinking Water) and 100.1 (Asbestos in Water). Flooding can cause devastating damage to a home or business, so it is important that people understand flood risks in their area. Flood risks are not just based on history; they are also based on a number of factors, including rainfall, river-flow and tidal-surge, topography, flood-control measures, and changes due to building and development in a particular area. Those who experience flooding or other types of water damage to their property, can turn to the experts at EMSL for testing services and sampling supplies for mold, bacteria, lead and metals, asbestos, sewage contamination, chemicals, and other potential contaminants.
