Thank you to National Renewable Energy Laboratory for hosting this event around #cement and #concrete #decarbonization.Representatives from various organizations and backgrounds came together to discuss opportunities, solutions and challenges to reach net zero by 2050. It was a great occasion to hear from the community! I was honored to represent U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Energetics. Big shout out to Ana Aday for coordinating the event and for the tours. #buildingmaterial #energy #sustainability

This past summer, NREL hosted over 100 experts from around the country to talk about #decarbonizing the second most utilized resource in the world: #concrete. October 2 is Energy Efficiency Day! Today, we acknowledge the vital role energy efficiency plays in building a more sustainable and resilient future. For decades, it has kept the lights on and helped keep the demand curve relatively flat – and it will continue to be essential in tackling the challenges ahead. We’ll need to think bigger and innovate on a larger scale, but by collaborating and addressing the issues together, we can pave the way for a more resilient energy future. #EnergyEfficiencyDay

Takeaways from The Cadmus Group and Energetics webinar on the third year evaluation results of the California IOUs' EV charging infrastructure programs, which cover about 25% of all electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in the state, as well as EV infrastructure installed at schools, parks, and other public locations: 1) A ton of data was crunched to produce this report - it's probably the most complete dataset of actual installation timelines and charging behaviors in the US, supported by EVSE data, surveys, interviews, and site visits, as well as modeling and analysis to understand the market impact of these investments 2) Speaking of timelines, it was surprising to see that the average number of days from application to activation for MHD fleet sites was actually getting longer over time (from 2021 to 2023) - primarily because the newer sites were larger and more complex projects, and because supply chain delays persisted 3) It was discouraging to see that that only 20% of the MHD fleet sites evaluated in 2023 were managing their EV load - and that many HD and ESB sites could avoid charging on-peak, but didn’t. The evaluators recommended that IOUs contact program participants on an annual basis after site activation, and I know the IOUs are working to integrate more customer education on TOU rates and load management into their programs - but there's still a lot of work to do...
