On #NationalComingOutDay, we typically celebrate the joy of living authentically. But for many people, it isn't safe for them to be out, even to their doctor. In this webinar, we'll talk about why LGBTQ+ folx might not feel safe being out at the doctor's office, how this can lead to poor diagnoses and treatment, and how health care providers can make their patients feel safer. 🌈🏳️⚧️ Time: Oct. 15 at 11 AM Location: Zoom Register for the webinar: https://lnkd.in/gjnzqgnp Equitas Health Institute Learning and Training Coordinator Ramona Peel (they/she) will chat with Equitas Health Director of Gender-Affirming Care Teagan Vaughn, RPh, PharmD, AAHIV (she/her) and Equitas Health Interim Associate Director of Mental Health and Recovery Services Miriam Mogilevsky, LISW-S (they/them). “Collective liberation requires us to see everyone's problems as our own... Our own liberation is tangled up in everyone else's.” Keynote Speaker Alejandro Varela 👏💜 Trans rights are under attack. House Bill 68, the ban on gender-affirming care for youth in Ohio, has already taken effect. House Bill 245 aims to ban drag performances in Ohio. Also in Ohio, six outdated HIV criminalization laws create stigma against people living with HIV. There is common ground in these laws: they punch down on communities already facing higher rates of poverty, houselessness, and other factors that negatively impact their health outcomes. It’s more important than ever that we come together to uplift these voices. The 9th annual Transforming Care Conference “Carrying the Torch” brought together healthcare providers, researchers, activists, and community members who share a commitment to LGBTQ+ and HIV health equity. Folx attended workshops such as “Anti-Fat Bias and Transgender Healthcare” and “How Ohio HIV Criminalization Laws Affect Women Living with HIV.” Thank you for committing to LGBTQ+ and HIV health equity. And thank you for another fantastic Transforming Care Conference! 🔥🎉

During the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 80s, the lesbian community – known as the Blood Sisters – answered the call for help that many wouldn’t. They organized and donated at blood drives and volunteered in hospitals. They provided social and emotional support to those abandoned by their loved ones and community. Thanks to their compassion and courage, the Blood Sisters saved lives and inspired change in the fight to #StopHIV. Thank you, lesbians! 🧡🤍💖🤍🧡 #InternationalLesbianDay
