With the expertise and enthusiasm of several Weir Portland colleagues, 22 Walla Walla University students enjoyed an immersive and STEM-packed, behind-the-scenes look at the work we do each day at ESCO division headquarters in Portland, Oregon. The students, all engineering seniors preparing to graduate, connected face-to-face with Weir team members while touring our Plant 3 foundry and Hank Swigert Center for Innovation on 21 October. As expected, our casting booth, where custom keychains were made, received positive reviews! We were pleased to host these passionate and savvy students and provide STEM education opportunities that help develop the next generation of STEM leaders. Thanks to the Plant 3 crew, design engineers and innovation & technology teammates who helped make this day a success. MOTION METRICS™ is a critical part of Weir’s purpose to provide mining technology for a sustainable future. We believe in fulfilling this purpose with great leaders like Mike Funke who has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Global Head of MOTION METRICS™. After having led the business on an interim basis, Mike has accepted the role, effective 1 November. He will lead the global operation by focusing on rapidly scaling the business and achieving our vision to become a digitally enabled mining productivity partner. Mike has played an integral role in the success of MOTION METRICS™ since its acquisition in 2021. The family day experience is one all our colleagues look forward to in Xuzhou, China. On 22 September, more than 900 employees and their loved ones united at a local park for mixing and mingling, entertainment, refreshments, and recreational activities. To everyone’s delight, the 12th annual family day event featured a talent show with children performing poem recitations, dancing, athletics, and musical instruments, including the flute, violin and the Chinese zither! “It is impressive seeing [their] diverse interests.
