When a family comes to a new country, like this one who's come here from Ukraine, navigating everything can be pretty overwhelming. Finding support for basic needs, like food, can be hard to know even where to begin. Schools play such an important role in not only educating our kids, but also in connecting students and families to resources. We’re grateful to be selected as the Charity Highlight for October as part of Apple Auto Sales Season of Giving campaign! If you are car shopping (or know someone who is), they'll donate one food bag to Every Meal for every car sold during the month. What a productive and impactful day with Ecolab! Every Meal brought the food and packing equipment to their Schuman Campus in Eagan and volunteers helped us pack a whooping 5,022 food bags in just a few hours. It was such a memorable experience. Every Meal turns 14 today! We started small. Really small, actually: In 2010, we started providing food to 27 kindergarteners in Las Estrellas Dual Elementary in NE Minneapolis. It was a pilot program to get them food for the weekend. Volunteers would meet to get the food bags ready every week that school year. Our "warehouse" was in the basement of Mill City Church. Fast forward to today, and we’re grateful to operate out of our 30,000+ square foot warehouse in Roseville to match how much we’ve grown, now serving nearly 12,000 kids. And we recently purchased the full building to nearly double our space, all to double down on our impact and reach more Minnesota kids experiencing food insecurity. Every Friday morning, our network of AMAZING volunteers place food directly into kids’ backpacks. This simple act saves time for the school staff, and eliminates barriers to food access by giving kids food that’s ready to take home for the weekend. And today, we were happy to be joined at our weekly food distribution by Senator Erin Maye-Quade and Representative Robert Bierman during our weekly food distribution at Westview Elementary School.
