Along the banks of Lake Superior, Essentia Health's St. Mary's Medical Center redefines the patient experience and challenges contemporary #healthcaredesign strategies with bold, innovative, and sustainable solutions. Our design team and partners envisioned a hospital environment that is comfortable, welcoming, and efficient for patients, families, and staff. Its iconic façade pays homage to the rolling fog of the largest lake in the world and provides striking views throughout each of its 19 floors. Its public areas have the engaging warmth of hospitality spaces, and its patient-centric design drives impactful outcomes by consolidating adaptable inpatient rooms, procedure rooms, and flexibly planned outpatient spaces. At nearly a million SF and the length of 2 football fields, this monumental hospital remains a community-based hospital that puts patients and families first. https://lnkd.in/efCAe96x

Entertainment Nation at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History is the first permanent exhibit dedicated to the nation’s entertainment history. This exhibit, which spans from the mid-19th century to today, showcases iconic artifacts and connects them to the pivotal political and cultural events that have shaped our present day. Collaborating with the talented team at Reich&Petch, EwingCole focused on the exhibit's infrastructure planning and installation. Within the renovated west wing designed by EwingCole, the space features flexible galleries and a black box space with modular power and data systems designed to simplify exhibit setup and reconfiguration. One of our firm's goals is to reach out to younger generations and provide them with the tools and support they need to lead successful educations and careers. That's why we're proud to participate in Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia's Backpack-A-Thon. Our small but mighty team joined thousands of volunteers from across the Philadelphia area to pack 35,000 backpacks with school supplies that will go to kids in need and set them up for success in the coming school year. Thank you to our volunteers for your passion and work ethic! #EwingColeCares #CommunityOutreach #Philanthropy #BackpackAThon #SupportingEducation #CradlesToCrayons #KidsInNeed #Volunteer #BuildingFutures

EwingCole recognizes the importance of creating opportunities for those traditionally underrepresented in our field and struggling to gain access to fulfilling careers in design. Our goal is to address this issue by building pathways and pipelines through these obstacles in their education from K-cap and gown. We are proud to support organizations like the National Organization of Minority Architects in their efforts to elevate and support young architects on their career paths. Today, we proudly celebrate National Disability Independence Day, marking the signing of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)! According to the CDC, 15% of the global population has a disability. In the US, about 25% of the population faces these challenges. Our understanding of what is or who has a disability has evolved over the last three decades, and barriers to vital healthcare persist. Studies highlight that due to limited design solutions that go beyond ADA requirements, people with disabilities are often excluded from comprehensive preventive care and community health promotion efforts. To address these issues, architects and designers increasingly embrace Inclusive Design principles to mitigate everyday challenges. Our Design Research team works with clients to implement solutions that lead to a more equitable experience for everyone. Today on the blog, the team offers key insights into their work for building owners, healthcare providers, and other design professionals to consider when designing their next project. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/e5tigrHu #NationalDisabilityIndependenceDay #ADA #InclusiveDesign #EquityInDesign #AccessibilityMatters
