In our October Challenge we are making our way through the Book of Sirach, focused on growing as men of wisdom and peace. In this adventure, we will turn to the example of a saint who was not a priest or monk but a lay man, a holy husband and father: the last Catholic Emperor, Blessed Karl of Austria, who dedicated his life to seeking peace. Blessed Karl was beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 2004 and his feast day is October 21st. Throughout the month, Exodus 90 will host a series of weekly conversations on the life of Blessed Karl and it's not too late for you to join us and get access to these powerful interviews with Archduke Christian of Austria, Archduke Eduard Hapsburg, Charles Coulombe, and Fr. Boniface Hicks, OSB. Download the Exodus 90 app 👉👉👉 https://lnkd.in/gmHXvY9D

St. Robert Bellarmine is a fascinating figure in Catholic history, known for his theological insight and contributions to the Church. Here are 5️⃣ interesting facts about him: 1. Key Figure in the Counter-Reformation: Bellarmine was one of the most important theologians of the Counter-Reformation, working to refute Protestant teachings and defend Catholic doctrine. His writings were highly influential in shaping the Catholic response to the Reformation. 2. Author of the “Disputationes”: Bellarmine’s most famous work is the Disputationes de Controversiis Christianæ Fidei (Disputations on the Controversies of the Christian Faith), a multi-volume defense of Catholic theology against Protestant reformers. This work had a significant impact on Catholic theology and apologetics. 3. Cardinal and Influential Advisor: He was made a cardinal by Pope Clement VIII in 1599. As an advisor to several popes, Bellarmine was involved in important decisions regarding Church doctrine, governance, and the handling of political issues involving the papacy. 4. Galileo’s Trial: Bellarmine is often remembered for his involvement in the case of Galileo Galilei. In 1616, he was tasked by the Church to inform Galileo that his heliocentric views were considered contrary to Scripture. Although Bellarmine’s approach was measured, the case later became a major historical episode in the science-religion debate. 5. Canonized and Declared a Doctor of the Church: Robert Bellarmine was canonized as a saint in 1930 by Pope Pius XI and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1931 for his contributions to theology and his defense of the faith. These facts highlight Bellarmine’s significant role in Church history and his intellectual legacy. St. John Chrysostom, one of the most famous early Christian theologians and preachers, is renowned for his eloquent sermons and influential contributions to Christian thought. Here are five interesting facts about this great saint👇 👇 👇 1. "Chrysostom" Means "Golden-Mouthed": The name "Chrysostom" was not his birth name, but rather a title given to him posthumously because of his extraordinary skills as a preacher. His sermons were so powerful and eloquent that he earned the nickname "Chrysostomos," meaning "golden-mouthed" in Greek. 2. Patriarch of Constantinople: John became the Patriarch of Constantinople in 398 AD, one of the most important positions in the early Church. However, his strong stance against corruption and his efforts to reform the clergy and wealthy elite made him unpopular with many influential figures, including the Empress Eudoxia. 3. Exiled Twice: Due to his outspoken criticism of the moral failings of the court and clergy, John was exiled twice. His second exile, which came after he denounced the Empress Eudoxia, ultimately led to his death in 407 AD due to the harsh conditions of travel and isolation. 4. Champion of the Poor: John Chrysostom was deeply concerned with issues of poverty and social justice. In his sermons, he frequently denounced the extravagant lifestyles of the rich and called for generosity towards the poor. His views were radical for his time, as he emphasized that the wealthy had a moral obligation to share their resources with the needy. 5. Author of the Divine Liturgy: One of his most lasting contributions is the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, still used in the Eastern Orthodox Church and some Eastern Catholic Churches today. This liturgical service is celebrated regularly, showcasing his influence on Christian worship practices. St. John Chrysostom remains a highly revered figure in both Eastern and Western Christianity for his theological insights, social teachings, and enduring legacy in the Church. Happy Feast of Pope St. Gregory the Great! Pope St. Gregory the Great (circa 540–604) was one of the most influential popes in the early Christian church. Born into a wealthy Roman family, Gregory initially pursued a career in law before becoming a monk. He was later elected Pope in 590, a position he held until his death. Gregory is renowned for his contributions to the Church's liturgical practices and administrative reforms. He is credited with developing the Gregorian Chant, which profoundly influenced Western church music. He also played a significant role in missionary work, particularly in converting the Anglo-Saxons in England. His writings, including the "Moralia in Job" and "Dialogues," contributed to Christian theology and doctrine. Gregory's papacy is marked by his emphasis on pastoral care and the spiritual welfare of the faithful. He was canonized as a saint and is celebrated for his role in shaping the medieval Church.

Happy Feast of St. Augustine. St. Augustine of Hippo (354–430 AD) was a prominent early Christian theologian and philosopher. Born in what is now Algeria, he initially pursued a hedonistic lifestyle but converted to Christianity in 386 AD. Augustine became the bishop of Hippo (modern-day Annaba, Algeria) and is best known for his influential writings, including Confessions, an autobiographical work detailing his conversion, and The City of God, which addresses the relationship between Christianity and secular society. His thoughts on original sin, grace, and predestination profoundly impacted Christian theology and Western philosophy. Augustine is recognized as a Doctor of the Church and a key figure in the development of Western Christian doctrine.
