At the Plant Based World Expo North America at the Javitz last week, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of booths that actually had thoughtfully designed branded merchandise. I'll refrain from calling out or shaming the losers (𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺), but I will say that there were plenty of chap sticks, pens, overdesigned tees (𝘞𝘏𝘠 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘰𝘴??), water bottles and USB sticks, aka "useful junk" 👎👎👎. This is the exact nonsense that clogs your junk drawer at home. But let's talk about the 🏆swag winners🏆 and why I love them so much. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐛: 1️⃣ The merch is cute, trendy, and 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (ask yourself: would ANYONE wear this outside of the conference?) 2️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 The companies below crushed it on these two measures -- and you can see what they made in the photos on this post. 1️⃣ Oatly: I'm admittedly in love with Oatly's marketing in general. It's delightfully strange and surprising. I loved how their pins and stickers completely work with Oatly's values and message but ALSO work for people who share their values and want to promote them. Note that the Oatly brand name isn't on these -- it's very IYKYK! Erin Causey Meredith Paula Perez Scott Mai - these are great! 2️⃣ Harmless Harvest: I adore the beachy and playful look of this brand. While this tee is clearly promoting HH's values and brand message, it's cute enough that I would wear it on the regular and be proud to support them. Sean Makau Nicole Sung-Jereczek Edward Domio Emily Schell - fantastic designs, 5 stars 🤩 3️⃣ Fabalish: I didn't know this brand before the conference but I'm definitely a fan now! The food was tasty and their brand reps were having the best time together. The entire vibe of the booth was WE'RE HAVING FUN HERE COME JOIN US and their branded merch -- even though it's just a logo -- reflected what they are about. They're the big Barbie dance party you want to step in and join. This shirt is also cute enough to wear outside the context of the conference. Paul Majcherczyk Jessica Gebel Michael Majcherczyk Kathleen Heaney James Boggi 🎉 And some honorable mentions: SHICKEN Foods Original Sunshine MYOJO U.S.A., INC. Nature's Fynd - they made "the future is fungi" pins that I adored, Melissa Facchina - we talked about these! Which of my three favorites is YOUR favorite, and why? Do you agree that these items can stand on their own, outside the conference?
