"Be proactive but with patience," recommended Gozen Hartman, our CEO, this week at the AppFolio Future Conference. Gozen joined Stacy Holden, Industry Principal and Director at AppFolio, Sharon Wilson Geno, President of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), and Shane Trigg, CEO of AppFolio in a keynote panel before an audience of around 2,000 industry professionals to discuss the role of technology and AI in shaping the future of real estate. She also participated in a panel regarding the importance of brand and reputation in our industry. Maggie Sprague, our COO, also shared her expertise in a panel focused on student housing, where she discussed the unique challenges and opportunities in the student housing market. Last week members of our Fairlawn team spent the morning at the Eastern Illinois Foodbank participating in Operation Orange, an event for Hunger Action Month! Our team joined other volunteers in repacking potatoes into 5-pound bags, which will then be distributed to members of our community. We always enjoy volunteering at the food bank and look forward to doing so again soon!

We wrapped up 'turn' with a party at our corporate headquarters last week featuring delicious food from Maize Mexican Grill! Over the past few weeks, Fairlawners ensured over a thousand units within the Champaign-Urbana metro area were move-in ready. We are so grateful for everyone's hard work, we couldn't have done it without you!

It's operationally our busiest time of year in our home market! Known as "Turn", this is when we have a large number of residents move out and then have people move into those same units seemingly immediately. Within the Champaign-Urbana metro area we will be turning 1,026 units over a few week period. Yes, it's a ton! How do we even do this? It takes a lot of planning and collaboration across so many internal teams and external vendors. The last step of the process is walking each unit to ensure it is ready for the next move-in. 50+ people participate in these "final walks". Everyone who participates uses a "sparkle bag" full of cleaning supplies so they can "sparkle" up any spot that has been missed! Pictured here, our Smile team on campus is ready for the challenge! Although Turn can result in a crazy few weeks, it is always inspiring to see Fairlawners come together to help out when needed!
