KAAL-TV ABC 6 News interviewed our Once Upon a Playhouse partner John Eischen, the Chair of Committee for Rochester Area Builders! John outlined the dedication behind the builds, giving credit to Kraus-Anderson, Knutson Construction, and Kellogg’s students, then revealed his favorite part of this partnership: “My favorite part of the playhouse building is when is when the kids, when they’re done and we send them home, they have their parents stop down and they say, “this is what we did today,” said Eischen. Are you looking for some inspiration? At each All-Staff meeting we invite a speaker to come and talk about their organization or to share their story. These guests align with or speak to our mission. One recent guest speaker was Rory Londer, the man behind the true story of the book "Should've Been Dead, Lessons from a Crack Addict who Broke Free" as written by Sweta Patel with Rory Londer. Rory is a local resident of Rochester who went from addiction, homelessness, and shame, to a man who gives back to the community that helped him. Staff who attended were inspired, grateful and humbled by Rory's vulnerability and strength to share his life experiences.

Did you see our own Brenda Chilman on KAAL-TV ABC 6 News? Brenda explained how important Once Upon a Playhouse is to our community! “The funds that we raise help support programs and services we have available to provide therapy and other support services for the youth in the community. All of our services are available on an ability to pay basis so nobody is ever turned away because they can’t afford to pay,” said Brenda Chilman, the Events and Development Manager of Family Service Rochester. Kay Fogelson and Una Glassmaker were given a royal welcome in our vehicle for the Byron Parade! Kay and Una are long-time Byron community members who support Neighbors Helping Neighbors with their participation in Byron Senior Cafe and BINGO events. They both raised their families in Byron, and it was an honor to see so many people recognize and appreciate them during the parade. We'd also like to share a huge thank you to Larry and Thomas (& Maya, too!) for walking and helping us distributing candy for the parade crowd.
