We're excited to feature Kuijun(Yulia) Wang, an integral member of our Engineering team who has been with Fathom for several years. During grad school in biostatistics at Georgetown University, Yulia uncovered her passion for data in healthcare, which led her to work on deep learning projects at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. These experiences shaped her perspective on the interaction between academia and industry: "Many people see academia and industry as completely separate worlds … but they complement each other really well. Industry benefits from the innovative thinking and breakthroughs that come out of academic research, and academia gains valuable insights from seeing how their ideas play out in practical settings. This back-and-forth between theory and practice is what drives progress and innovation in both areas." Coming to Fathom with this perspective, Yulia appreciated rapidly getting up to speed on industry practices through her colleagues, and now pays it forward by offering the same support to new engineers. "In those first few months, I asked countless questions, and everyone was always willing to help … It's been a rewarding path so far, and I can't wait to see what's next!" Check out her new 🌳 Growing with Fathom blog to learn more about Yulia: https://lnkd.in/ezkHYeS4 P.S. We're growing! The energy at Becker's Healthcare 9th Annual Health IT + Digital Health + RCM last week was electric! 🏥💡 We had a great time reconnecting with old friends and making new connections. Here are a few leaders' takes that stood out to us from the many insightful sessions: 🌟 On the role of vendor SLAs Brian Herrick, former Chief Information Officer at Cambridge Health Alliance: "SLAs are really important. It's about what's expected of you and of them, and holds clear guidance … the criteria you put forth is very important." In our view, SLAs are increasingly valuable for revenue cycle leaders to push on, given the proliferation of vendors making similar claims. 🌟 On people + technology Dr. Anthony Weiss, Chief Medical Officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center: "We need to think about AI as a member of the medical staff, as crazy as that sounds. These models are training and growing and modifying, but it's not different from a physician, who's constantly learning from each encounter with a patient." To us, this perspective underscores a similar shift in revenue cycle from purely managing people to managing people + software. 🌟On partner selection Adriana G., Chief Information Officer at Loretto Hospital: "Do your due diligence when making your selection process. Make sure there's clear communication, make sure both sides understand what the expectation is, communicate it well and document it, and make sure there are performance metrics that you want them [vendor] to meet." What insights from Becker's resonated with you last week? #Beckers #MedicalCoding #MedicalBilling #RevenueCycleManagement #ArtificialIntelligence #Healthcare

When we're not in the office or on the road at RISE (last week) or Becker's (coming up!), the Fathom team loves to get together regularly. Our teams based in New York and Toronto each recently gathered for sunset cruises. 🌇 The New York team cruised aboard "The Manhattan," taking in views of the Statue of Liberty 🗽 as the sun set behind the iconic skyline. Meanwhile, our Toronto team enjoyed a scenic sail on Lake Ontario. ⛵ We soaked in the late-summer rays and had a great time catching up outside! P.S. Notice the shoes that Peiran Guo is wearing in the third photo? P.P.S. We're growing! 🎙️ On the Healthcare Inspired LLC with host Jennifer McNamara, Fathom's Head of Coding Quality, Taylor Webster, recently discussed the importance of quality in medical coding, its impact on care and reimbursement, and how leaders can foster collaboration between coders and providers. We've collected more highlights from the conversation. Swipe through for Taylor's perspective on: - The impact of backlogs on coding quality, as understaffing and time pressure can lead to missed details that hamper accuracy - Coder-provider feedback loops to improve documentation quality, consistency, and compliance - How autonomous coding technology provides relief for rev cycle teams and flags deficiencies earlier, when they have a higher chance to be fixed - The importance of capturing all the "little details," especially when determining E/M codes, and how these accuracy improvements drive a meaningful financial impact Catch the full podcast (~25 min) here → https://lnkd.in/ewghqeFh #MedicalCoding #MedicalBilling #RevenueCycleManagement #ArtificialIntelligence #Healthcare
