  • "Visiting rural Arizona made clear that if we want our children to succeed in this digital age then we need to ensure they can access the internet. Every child deserves internet access at home to thrive, regardless of their background or zip code." – Chairwoman Rosenworcel, in her recent visit to an Arizona school district where she talked with the community about our latest efforts to modernize the E-Rate program and close the homework gap for rural communities.

AT&T failed to ensure the vendor hosting their content: (1) adequately protected the customer information (2) returned or destroyed it as required by contract Our Enforcement Bureau will continue to make sure that service providers remain responsible with customer data.

  • Today until November 1st, 2024 our application window for the Schools and Libraries Cybersecurity Pilot Program is officially open. Eligible schools and libraries can apply to participate in a 3-year, $200 million program to support the costs of cybersecurity services and equipment, while sharing data with us to better understand how universal service funds could be used to improve school and library defenses against increasing cyberattacks. This pilot is part of our Learn Without Limits initiative to ensure connectivity to and within schools and libraries. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eaMtW6yT

  • We are now accepting applications for administrators of our voluntary cybersecurity labeling program for wireless consumer Internet of Things products. The program will allow qualifying consumer smart products that meet critical cybersecurity standards to display a label, including a new U.S. government certification mark “U.S Cyber Trust Mark,” which will help consumers make informed purchasing decisions, easily identify trustworthy products, and encourage manufacturers to prioritize higher cybersecurity standards. This voluntary program will be a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors, with the FCC overseeing the process and authorized third-party administrators managing activities such as evaluating product applications, granting permission to use the label, and educating consumers.  https://lnkd.in/eig5wTFj

  • Chairwoman Rosenworcel today outlined the FCC’s agenda for its September Open Meeting. Here’s what to expect: • We’re improving access to video conferencing services to ensure that services like Zoom and Teams must be accessible to people with disabilities. • We’re freeing up spectrum to support satellite broadband service that would enable the deployment of high-speed broadband and other advanced satellite services, especially in remote, unserved, and underserved areas. • We’re bolstering protections against robocalls and texts. We will vote on new rules that would step up our enforcement efforts, including creating new financial penalties for carriers who fail to protect consumers from illegal calls. • We’re improving digital FM radio service. We will vote to streamline processes and change our rules to help stations to improve digital FM signal coverage while minimizing the risk of harmful interference to other stations. https://lnkd.in/ezgEmNyH

  • Chairwoman Rosenworcel signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne to strengthen information sharing and enforcement cooperation between the two regulators. In today’s digital age, telecommunications carriers have access to vast amounts of personal information, which is stored and transmitted across complex networks that extend beyond traditional borders. Cross-border enforcement cooperation helps to protect consumer privacy, data, and cybersecurity. The FCC is responsible for implementing and enforcing America’s communications law and regulations. The Privacy Commissioner of Canada oversees compliance with Canada’s two federal privacy laws that set out the rules for how federal government institutions and certain businesses must handle personal information. https://lnkd.in/dEJ7Ub7i

  • This week, Chairwoman Rosenworcel visited Los Angeles to promote our latest modernization of the E-Rate Program. We recently adopted rules that make it possible for schools and libraries to utilize E-Rate resources to loan out Wi-Fi hotspots that will provide internet access for individuals without a reliable connection at home. At a press conference in partnership with Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho and other local leaders, Chairwoman Rosenworcel said: “Every child, no matter who they are, no matter where they live, needs internet access at home to succeed, and with the FCC update to the E-Rate program, we're going to make that happen, not just here in Los Angeles, but in every community around the country.”  https://lnkd.in/eueKx8Ca
