One of the perks of having our headquarters in Washington, DC is the unique opportunity to witness the dynamic intersection of deep tech and democracy firsthand. Last night, our Communications team attended an enlightening event at the Australian Embassy titled "How Internet Culture Shapes Our World: Memes, Deep Fakes, and Virality." The event featured distinguished speakers, including: ▶ Ginny Badanes, General Manager of Democracy Forward at Microsoft ▶ Lacey Dickinson, Co-Executive Director of The Other 98% and Founder of Dickinson Digital Strategies ▶ Ami Fields-Meyer, Former Senior Policy Advisor to VP Kamala Harris ▶ Helen Toner, Director of Strategy and Foundational Research Grants at Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) With opening remarks by Hon Dr. Kevin Rudd AC, Australia's Ambassador to the United States, we delved into the impact of AI, disinformation, and cyber tactics on the electoral landscape. The discussion covered the effectiveness and psychology behind viral political content, as well as the technology and ethical implications of deep fakes, providing valuable insights into the modern landscape of digital communication and the responsibilities of the deep tech sector. Thanks to the Australian Embassy Washington DC and International Intrigue for hosting -- our Comms team is now better equipped to advise our deep tech companies and entrepreneurs as they navigate this complex market! #DeepTech #Democracy #AI #DigitalCommunication #EventRecap #WashingtonDC #AusTalks

🔎 Where were you during last week's global tech outage? 🔍 FedTech's Asmod Karki was boarding his flight to Mumbai, where he continues his efforts to support and engage India's bustling deep tech ecosystem.
FedTech is continuing to expand and deepen our engagements in India. Meeting with friends old and new has been a theme of this pan-India tour. Interacting with some of the most prominent venture builders to investors to organizations in the US-India cross border deep-tech ecosystem has been quite a learning. India is moving fast, the ecosystem has accelerated, and most importantly there’s tremendous hope and optimism in the people. And the trip wouldnt be an adventure without some spice to it- would it? The global software outage meant I got, perhaps, the first (and hopefully the only) handwritten boarding pass of my life. This was quite an innovation, which is the hall mark of India’s capability to make things work. When the software failed and chaos pervaded, the airliners including IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) very quickly adapted and impressively managed to roll out end-end offline flight onboarding managment system. Of course, it was a lot of papers and a bit slow but it worked! The other alternative would have been to cancel/postone my trip to the amazing city of Mumbai, which wouldnt have been desirable- to say the least. Technology is not always the solution. Desinging resilient and lean systems that can adapt to the needs of uncertain and ever changing times is perhaps a hallmark of true innovation. Today it’s a “small” software update, tomorrow it could be an unforeseen climatic event, day after it could be adversarial maneuvers up in the space. The threats, risks, and opportunities grow manifold as the complexity and interdependency of the systems we create multiply. Excited to continue learning and discovering many facets of innovations. On to Delhi next. Ben Solomon Jake Kramer Robyn Brazzil Lindsey Smith Thom Martin Geoffrey M. Congrats to University of Cincinnati in my home state for being one of the first tech transfer organizations to implement AI to increase licensing and venture creation. "Lucy" is an AI avatar that can interact with partners to help pair them with inventions and expertise at the university. It will be very interesting to see the results of this technology over time and if it increases the university's economic impact. FedTech is also taking part of the AI revolution. We have leveraged AI for numerous aspects of our venture programs, including technology diligence, entrepreneur pairing and market research. Want to hear more?
