An international network of 1500 formerly incarcerated college graduates across 44 states and 10 countries. VISION We envision a society in which formerly incarcerated people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, and offense types pursue their dreams as educated and empowered citizens with valued experiences. We see a world in which we have the rights and opportunities needed to make important contributions to our communities and beyond. MISSION Our mission is to promote the education and empowerment of formerly incarcerated people through a collective community. Terrell A. Blount, MPA, executive director of Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network, is a case study in how to leverage LinkedIn for thought leadership. Instead of waiting for editors to approve his op-eds or essays, Terrell gets his ideas in front of the very folks he wants to engage and be in community with, making compelling arguments for change. One of FICGN’s campaigns, “Take the Pledge for Human First Language,” is an effort to get more people to understand how the person-first language movement connects to folks impacted by the criminal legal system.
