Great article in Control Engineering focused on how to use #PADIM to improve #OTIT process data! Insights include... 💡Improve OT/IT #communications by examining data sources, such as instrumentation and field devices, and using Process Automation Device Information Model (PA-DIM) fundamentals, such as moving data where needed. 💡PA-DIM offers three significant benefits for digital transformation, #IIoT, and OT/IT convergence, as well as for #standards, #protocols, and #harmonization. 💡Explanations are offered about how to deploy PA-DIM and how it simplifies #dataaccess. "In summary, the PA-DIM model provides an avenue for IT systems to easily achieve read-only integration directly with field devices—which may support different automation protocols—exposing the necessary data with full contextual semantics." - Paul Sereiko - FieldComm Group, Director of Marketing and Product Strategy Read the full article here...https://lnkd.in/gW63ZtTX

Great presentation summary by Jonas Berge on 'The #HART Connectivity #Ecosystem' at our recent Thailand event... HART solutions will co-exist with your evolving digital transformation migration initiatives. Learn more below...
I spoke on “The HART Connectivity Ecosystem” at the FieldComm Group event in Thailand. Imagine a connectivity ecosystem of 4-20 mA, wireless, Ethernet, and instruments with Bluetooth all working together, all working the same way, with the same tools, with the same look and feel, and same terminology. A single common #instrument protocol makes the mix of instrument signal technologies a lot easier. This is what HART the connectivity ecosystem brings. Because know this; they will coexist in plants for a long time. So in the HART connectivity ecosystem there is 4-20 mA/HART, WirelessHART, HART-IP, and #Bluetooth to cover all process instrumentation needs. The HART #protocol was designed specifically for instrumentation. It is not a PLC protocol. This makes HART instruments easy to use; to configure, calibrate, and diagnose etc. And the technologies complement each other. WirelessHART takes the place of portable testers and mechanical gauges, it does not replace 4-20 mA. Bluetooth is used for configuration; it does not take the place of 4-20 mA. It will take time before #EthernetAPL is available for all kinds of instrumentation. How many types of instruments can you think of? I’m listing those from one manufacturer below. These HART technologies are available across a broad spectrum of instrumentation: sensors, systems, software, and valves. I highlighted a few interesting instrumentation innovations using the various technologies in the HART connectivity ecosystem, like frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar level transmitters taking the place of ultrasonic and DP level transmitters. The ease of installing non-intrusive clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters. Control valve positioner with embedded #ArtificialIntelligence (AI) to predict valve failure and to quantify valve underperformance. And asset performance management software using #AI to predict problems in equipment like pumps and quantify fouling in equipment like heat exchangers. Do you have a long-term plan for the evolution of #instrumentation and #automation in your plants? How do you ensure a #skillsgap is not created for the I&C technicians and system engineers? Using the familiar HART protocol is an effective way to make sure skills gaps are not created in the first place. 4-20 mA/HART 🔌Flue gas oxygen 🔌Amperometric (DO2/chlorine/ozone) 🔌Conductivity 🔌pH/ORP 🔌pH/conductivity/turbidity/DO2/chlorine/ozone 🔌Flame 🔌Gas concentration 🔌Open path gas detector (combustibles) 🔌Open path gas detector (toxic) 🔌Ultrasonic gas leak 🔌Coriolis mass flow 🔌DP flow 🔌Magnetic flow 🔌Ultrasonic flow (clamp-on) 🔌Ultrasonic flow (inline) 🔌Vortex flow 🔌Displacer level 🔌Guided wave radar level 🔌Hydrostatic level 🔌Level switch 🔌Magnetostrictive Level 🔌Radar level 🔌Temperature 🔌Density 🔌Position 🔌Pressure & DP 🔌Refractometer (concentration) 🔌Viscosity 🔌Control valve positioner 🔌Electric actuator 🔌ESD valve PST 🔌On-off valve controller 🔌Controller (valve-mounted)
