📢 NEW PUBLICATION 📢 FinCoNet just published the summary report of the International Seminar on Market Conduct Supervision in Challenging Times, which took place as part of FinCoNet’s Annual General Meeting in November 2023, hosted by Bank of Mauritius. The Seminar, which featured opening remarks from the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, discussed global financial and economic trends and their impact on consumers, financial services providers, market conduct supervisors and other oversight authorities. The first panel session included presentations from the Bank for International Settlements – BIS, University of Mauritius, FinMark Trust, and CGAP. The second panel session highlighted perspectives from FinCoNet Members from Bank of Mauritius, the Financial Markets Authority - New Zealand, the FSCA South Africa and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada | Agence de la consommation en matière financière du Canada . Members of FinCoNet’s Governing Council held an in-person meeting on the sidelines of last week’s Joint Meeting of the G20/OECD Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection and FinCoNet, held at the OECD - OCDE headquarters in Paris. As FinCoNet’s governing body, the Governing Council is responsible for leading the organisation. There are currently eleven members on the Governing Council, representing authorities from: Australia (ASIC), Brazil (Banco Central do Brasil), Canada (Financial Consumer Agency of Canada | Agence de la consommation en matière financière du Canada ), Indonesia (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan), Ireland (Central Bank of Ireland), Italy (Banca d'Italia), Japan (Financial Services Agency, Japan (JFSA, 金融庁)), Portugal (Banco de Portugal), Rwanda (National Bank of Rwanda (NBR)), South Africa (FSCA South Africa) and Spain (Banco de España). At its meeting last week, the Governing Council discussed FinCoNet’s progress against its 2023-2024 Programme of Work and received updates from the Secretariat regarding membership applications. The Governing Council also discussed plans for the 2024 Annual General Meeting, to be hosted by Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y Administradoras de Fondos de Pensiones del Perú in Lima on 27-29 November 2024, in conjunction with an International Seminar on Financial Consumer Protection. FinCoNet and the OECD - OCDE co-hosted the International Seminar on Tackling Financial Scams and Frauds on 18 March 2024, held in conjunction with the launch of Global Money Week 2024. Juliana Mozachi Sandri, Chair of FinCoNet (Banco Central do Brasil), moderated a panel session highlighting the latest experiences and developments in regulatory and supervisory approaches to tackling financial scams and frauds from around the world.
