Five Wishes Certified Presenter, Judith Pare, authored a blog on Nursology, titled "The Power of Five Wishes: Nurse Knowing During End-of-Life Care." Judith writes about the humanistic nursing theory (HNT) and its approach to make things better for nurses and their patients as they engage in the daily activities of the nursing practice. She goes on to explain how an advance healthcare directive allows patients, families and nurses to achieve insight and understanding surrounding the importance of honoring end-of-life wishes. https://ow.ly/qoq050TVCUY #AdvanceCarePlanning #ACP #HNT #End-of-LifeWishes

“My definition of a ‘solo ager’ is someone who does not have family nearby who are able and willing to intervene in a crisis and who will be available to provide support as the solo ager requires it,” aging expert and author Sara Zeff Geber, PhD., says in the New York Post. About 22 million older adults (28% of people 65 and older) live alone. While they can live just as long as those not solo agers, this group needs additional support to offset their unique challenges. Only an estimated one-third of solo agers have someone to help manage their households or handle day-to-day expenses if they are unable to do so. And many don’t have someone to act as their health care agent should they become unable to communicate medical wishes. Five Wishes is great in either case because it allows you to clearly state what you would want or not want. https://ow.ly/Q8G350TSJzy #fivewishes #soloagers #soloaging #advancedirective #livingalone #eldercare #seniorcare

Marie Curie, named after the famous radioactivity researcher, is England’s largest end-of-life charity, established in 1948. After surveying more than a thousand UK adults whose loved ones had experienced end-of-life care, Marie Curie compiled a list of the ten most often-played songs at the end of life as reported by The Guardian. Sure, “My Way” and “Hey Jude” make sense, but Cyndie Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” was something of a surprise. So was Queen’s “These Are the Days of Our Lives.” What songs would make your top ten list? https://ow.ly/ZOmN50TSJCG #endoflife #music #deathbed #musictherapy #deathanddying #toptenlist

Marie Claire Dorking writes in Yahoo! Life about celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sobie and his years-long battle with cancer. As his time on earth nears its end, Dorking reports Sobie’s wife Carole has begun grief counseling to help her cope with the impending loss of her husband. Dorking discusses anticipatory grief, which emerges when you’re aware of an impending loss, such as in terminal illness. Then there’s its cousin, ambiguous grief. “Ambiguous grief, unlike conventional grief after death, arises when a person is physically present but emotionally or cognitively absent,” such as someone with dementia. Dorking offers several good ideas for coping during difficult times. https://ow.ly/OMzO50TSI4V #grief #typesofgrief #counseling #eldercare #mentalhealth #seniorliving

A recent NerdWallet survey found that 57% of Americans say they’re currently living paycheck to paycheck, with 42% of Americans with household incomes of $100,000 saying the same thing. How can this be? A closer look reveals many make regular contributions to savings and retirement accounts, have emergency funds, hire housecleaning services, have gym memberships and hold several entertainment subscriptions. Writer Elizabeth Renter thinks the term may be confusing. “When someone says they’re living paycheck to paycheck, it could be that they’re tightly budgeted. Emergency funds and retirement accounts, for example, are generally features of more financially secure households.” Are you a paycheck-to-paycheck person? https://ow.ly/sFxl50TMEoy #personalfinance #budgeting #familybudget #paychecktopaycheck #familyfinance
