It’s hard to let go of what you can’t control, but once you can, it’s freeing. Focus on what you can control. Deal with the rest as best you can. That’s all anyone can expect of us. You got this. #mentalhealthawareness #veteranshelpingveterans #personalgrowth

Veterans Supporting Veterans
About us
Flanders Fields was formed by a group of veterans, combat veterans, purple heart recipients and amputees to serve other veterans in need. We have a primary focus on helping those (and their families) that have been affected by the VA fueled opioid epidemic, to provide services such as covering treatment costs, assist with transportation and placement to inpatient facilities, to facilitate job training and placement post-recovery, and to provide support to their families while they are getting the help they need. We aim to END veteran homelessness and suicide, and addiction is the driving factor behind 22 a day. We want to see that at zero, and we will attack this issue with the same unrelenting resolve, tenacity, and aggression with which we attack everything else. In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

We live in the greatest country on earth. Warts and all, she’s still the greatest. Nowhere else can a couple of junkies get clean and decide to go on a rampage cleaning up the streets where they should have died, partnering up with the same people that once wanted to kill them, arrest them, or send them to prison. Nowhere else can we run our lives into the ground and bounce all the way back. More than once, even. Look around you. We’re all American. Get rid of the “us vs them” and get back to “we’re stronger together.” I wanna see every one of yall go find a spooky or bad place and commit some good deeds there, meet some people you don’t know and find a way to work with them to meet the needs of some more people who can NEVER pay you back. And PLEASE join my Patreon where we blueprint how we’re doing what we do, how we’re building businesses to fund the philanthropies, how we stay sane and manage all of it on top of eight kids - there’s a FREE level, Patreon.com/benowen

It really feels like that sometimes 🫠 Flanders relies on donations and grant money to get this work done. Hours and hours of volunteer time go into finding and applying for highly competitive grants, and appealing to donors on all kinds of platforms. So know that when you donate, you aren’t only making a real difference for our residents, you are also seen and appreciated so much. Thank you for your support!

It’s ok to be sad. It’s ok to be mad and frustrated and overwhelmed. According to many studies, those feelings are healthy. They allow us to focus on where we’re at, and improve how we handle more demanding situations. Gain some perspective. It’s good to be happy, and positive, and uplifting. But don’t feel bad about bad days. We all have them, and we can get through them together. #veterans #veteranshelpingveterans #recovery

How about a chessboard handmade by a formerly homeless veteran who is now a new (and sober and housed) daddy? Grab yours here - https://lnkd.in/eJdaSd-y VERY limited quantities of these will be available because the wood is limited (from trap houses we’ve shuttered) and they take a LOT of time to make!

You never know.
This is one of the mantras that drives me every single day. We NEVER know when it’s going to be our last day on earth, so be sure you live a life that keeps you in a place where you’re “ok” if that day happens to be today. That looks different for everyone, some of us have a past to atone for, others want to spend maximum time building families, and others being of service. Whatever it means to you, embrace it - and grab a bag, t shirt, blanket or coffee mug with this image on it and help fund some life saving work on the deadliest streets in America - https://lnkd.in/ef4dVyvW

It’s funny because it’s true? We are trying to fill the gap between what the government “promises” and what veterans need. Help Flanders help veterans, to get into recovery, to get treatment, to get safe housing, to find support, to learn new skills, to find new purpose. To take their lives back. We owe it to them. #veteranshelpingveterans #donate #22aday

This is someone you know. 😥 Who exactly? You may never know. What this person needs is a buddy check. Call the person you just thought about, they need it more than you know. ☎ Epsilon-Vet Coffee is dedicated to helping reverse the suicide trend in our Veteran/Military community. Epsilon-Vet Coffee was started by two US Army #Veterans who knew too many mates who are no longer with us. ☕ 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQ6x73Yr 👈 ☕ Not Starbucks | #VeteranSuicide | #Suicide | #Coffee | #Marketing | #innovation | #Transition | #Military | #MilitaryTransition

When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too (Paulo Coelho) A huge functioning principle of Flanders Fields is that recovery is more successful together. Residents go to meetings, live among others in recovery, and hold one another accountable. We encourage those interested to become Certified Peer Recovery specialists, because who knows better what someone in recovery needs, than someone who has been through it? It’s a continual process of learning, struggling, falling and rising, and no one should have to do it alone. Share your experience, your successes with your failures, and we’ll all be better for it! #veterans #community #recovery #support #checkonyourbuddies
