Transforming Infrastructure
About us
What is Flatiron? We’re more than a construction company. We are an organization of some 3,500 people with diverse backgrounds and varied expertise who share a singular focus on enhancing the well-being of people and communities. We bring together industry-leading engineers, highly skilled craft workers and other professionals to deliver innovative solutions to infrastructure challenges across the U.S. and Canada. Flatiron builds highways and bridges; aviation, rail and transit; dams and water treatment facilities; and underground projects that fuel local economies, improve safety and enhance efficiency. Flatiron engineers harness the art and science of structural design to create solutions that are as beautiful as they are functional. Our craft employees and on-site leaders bring vital experience to each project to turn vision into reality. And our project leaders collaborate with project owners to deliver solutions that meet challenging criteria—safely—while at the same time mitigating risk for all those involved. Beyond safely delivering outstanding projects, Flatiron people demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning, sustainability, our clients and partners, and the communities where we live and work. We build careers. We hire and advance the best engineers, craft workers and other professionals in our industry. We transform infrastructure.

Northern California's Isabella Lake Dam Safety Modification project earned the 2024 National Academy of Construction Special Achievement Award. Throughout five years of construction, the Flatiron, Dragados USA, Inc. and Sukut Construction, LLC joint venture delivered the $323 million project to the United States Army Corp of Engineers under budget and without a single significant accident, despite the high-risk nature of the work. The team logged 2.7 million labor hours and transformed what was once called the “most dangerous dam in America.” This recognition highlights the innovation, collaboration and safety practices that made the project successful — and reinforces Flatiron’s commitment to excellence. We are now in the fourth and final phase for Phoenix’s I-10 Broadway Curve. Flatiron, Pulice Construction, Inc. and FNF Construction, Inc crews placed the final flyover bridge, opened the new westbound collector-distributor roadway, and opened the new southbound SR-143 flyover ramp to eastbound I-10. Once complete, the project will enhance safety, reduce peak-hour travel times and improve Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport access. Fifteen new bridges. Wider lanes. Safer and more efficient traffic flow. Flatiron began work on our IH-820 East Loop project for Texas Department of Transportation near Fort Worth, Texas, in 2018. At that time, officials declared the five-mile project area as one of the worst choke points in the state. Our work is set to conclude this year, and we are proud to say that this North Texas community’s travel headache has been alleviated. Join Field Engineer Andy Lozoya on a tour of the project, where he explains just how strong the new bridges are. #TransformingInfrastructure #FlatironPeople #RoadConstruction #IH820

Saying you are committed to safety isn't just "talk." In news that should be no surprise to his colleagues, the National Safety Council named Colorado Health & Safety Manager Tommy Hanberg one of 38 "Rising Stars of Safety." According to an NSC news release, honorees have "promoted continuous safety improvement within their organizations." "Winning this award feels amazing. What the Health & Safety Department does is hard work, but this validates the effort that we put in," said Hanberg. Flatiron Vice President of Corporate Health & Safety Steve Trickel CSP said he could not be prouder about the news: "Hundreds are nominated for this award annually, but only a few are selected to receive this NSC recognition. I'm very proud of Tommy for this professional achievement, but more importantly, I'm proud of Tommy's contributions to Flatiron, our safety team and the Colorado District." Way to go, Tommy! Thanks for keeping our job sites safe. #TransformingInfrastructure #FlatironPeople #ConstructionSafety
